Cannot find Project Set-up Pod

$

I'm using RoboHelp 2015 to create Responsive HTML5 and printed documentation output. I am starting to investigate the use of context-sensitive Help. The RH documentation mentions a "Project Set-up Pod" but I see no such pod. I've had other issues with my RH2015 installation--specifically trying to generate printed documentation that resulted in several tech support calls. Perhaps this is either residue from that issue, or the pod is carefully hidden! Here's a screen capture of what's listed when I click Pods:

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Karen

Hi,

I just downloaded the latest version of Robohelp 2017 but a script error is occurring when I click the "preview" button of the Multiscreen HTML5 Settings window.

The translation of the error (see the image below) description is something like:

Error in script for this page

Line: 155

Character: 3

"Can not get 'makeFullUrl' property of undefined or null reference"

Code: 0

URL: file:///C:/Users/gianz/Documents/_clever%20corp/_totvs/mktg_02/03_desenvolvimento/13_robo _help/Totvs_14/!ScreenLayout!/Android_Tablet_Layout/!preview_folder_1!/template/scripts/lo adcsh.js

Does anyone know the reason for the error, please? Thanks!

Creating an external doc link in FM that works in RH

$

I am using FM 9 and RH 8 (TCS2) and I am trying to create a hyperlink within FM to an external pdf document and then have that hyperlink work from a linked project in RH. Note: I don’t care whether the hypertext command opens the document from within FM, only Robohelp. Two questions: What hypertext command do I use in FM and where do I place the pdf within the RH project?  I’ve tried various combinations of commands and locations, but so far none of the links have worked in my RH project.

My file structure:

FM Project: c:\VSS Checkout\BRG Master Files\BRGMasterProject.book (this book contains chapters linked to multiple subdirectories within the project)

RH Project: c:\RobohelpProjects\Bill Review Guidelines\

I am trying to open a file named ALGuide.pdf using the hypertext marker “message openfile” My assumption (and this could be wrong) is that I need to place the pdf within the Robohelp project and indicate the RH path location within the FM hyperlink.

I have tried the following Hypertext commands assuming that the !SSL! folder within my RH project is where the output files reside (in all of these cases, I placed the pdf file in c:\RobohelpProjects\Bill Review Guidelines\!SSL!\webhelp\) :

message openfile ALGuide.pdf

message openfile webhelp/ALGuide.pdf

message openfile !SSL!/webhelp/ALGuide.pdf

I have tried several other  path/location combinations, but there are so many combinations, I figured it was time to ask. Can anyone assist?

RoboHelp 9 chm file doesn't run on Windows Server 2012

Hi All,

I'm running RoboHelp 9.02 and created a chm file.  Tried to run it locally on a Windows Server 2012 machine and no luck! The chm file opened and then I got an error "Microsoft HTML Help Executable has stopped working."

Here's the entire message:

From what I understand from an engineer here, the code is some kind of access violation.

The same chm file runs just fine on Windows Server 2008 R2, so it must be something to do with Windows Server 2012. I called Adobe and their first line of support told me that the chm file has not been tested on Windows Server 2012.

Our software is distributing and registering the same HHActiveX.dll (64-bit), file version 9.0.0.228.

This is a bit of a problem for me because we are set to release in a day or two (yikes!!). I'd appreciate any help, hints, suggestions!

RoboHelp 10: Problems generating Printed Documentation

Environment

Windows 7 Enterprise, Service Pack 1, 64-bit operating system

Office Professional Plus 2010 Versions 14.0.7106.5001 (64-bit)

RoboHelp 10: 10.0.0.287

Visual Studio 2010 Professional. I open RoboHelp from within Source Control (have been doing it for two years).

Problem

Sometime after moving to RoboHelp 10, and even after successfully generating Printed Documentation output, I encountered a major problem generating Printed Documentation from RoboHelp: “Internal error encountered. Failed to generated Printed Documentation”. The error occurred when I tried to generate Printed Doc using my default TOC, which looks something like this:

Topic A

Topic B

Book 1

Book 2

Book 3

Topic C

Topic D

Based on an old Peter Grainge reply to someone about a similar problem, I removed all but the first topic from the Chapter Layout pane and generated the Help. Everything was fine until I got to the topics after Book 3. At that point everything started to fail again. When I removed Topics C, D, etc. from the Chapter Layout pane, the output was built successfully.

I tried moving Topics C, D, etc. to the top of the Chapter Layout pane, and got the same error. I tried creating a new folder and put Topics C, D, etc. into that folder. Failure after failure.

As an experiment, I removed all the Topics C, D, etc from the Chapter Layout pane, but then added them to the Print Document Section Layout pane (not where I want them). The Printed Documentation built successfully.

During attempts to build with Topics C, D, etc. in the Chapter Layout pane, I kept getting a Word error: Word is trying to recover your information. After that there was always a failure.

Selecting PDF as the output did not work when the Topic C, D, etc. files were at the bottom of the Chapter Layout pane.

I create a new TOC and a new Printed Documentation SSL. Failed to generate.

As a matter of reference, I've been generating Printed Documentation from the same TOC for more than a year and so cannot figure out what has changed in RoboHelp or Word to cause this grief .

Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Carol

Open CHM from another CHM

$

Hi guys,

I would like to open a chm file in a separate window from another chm file. Both the chm files are in the same folder.
Suppose one of my chm named XYZ.chm and another one is ABC.chm.

Now, in my ABC.chm, I want to provide a link to open the XYZ.chm in a separate window. I tried these solutions:

<a href="XYZ.chm">XYZ</a>.

This does not open up anything.

Then, I tried to provide link to a default topic name or home page topic in the XYZ.chm like this:

<a href="XYZ.chm::/Welcome_to_Adobe.htm">XYZ</a>.

This opens up a that particular topic "Welcome to Adobe" and that too in the same window of the ABC.chm.

Then, I tried to provide a relative path but that too did not work.

Then, I tried a local path. That did work but its not useful because it can always change.

So, I am looking for a solution which is independent of the local path. Maybe, through a javascript or something if it is possible.

Please help. Thanks in advance.

What project files are needed for development?

Hello,

I have a new WebHelp project that is nearing completion. Our Web developers are anxious to build the help into their application, but I'm not sure what files they need or do not need? Do I just turn over all files to them, or some subset?

Thanks!

mk:@MSITStore error while opening CHM file

Hi,

I have placed a CHM file (generated using RoboHelp
X5) in the network folder. When opened from there, it is
throwing this error:

Cannot open the file : mk:@MSITStore: <path where file
is located with file name>.

This error is thrown only for one or two files and not
all the CHM files in that network folder. Why so?

What is the reason and how to resolve this? Please
help!

Thanks and regards,
Krishna

Fatal Error: Unexpected error from Microsoft HTML compiler.

$

Although I get a happy message in a dialog box that says HTML Help has been sucessfully generated, the Output view tells a different story: Fatal Error: Unexpected error from Microsoft HTML compiler.

And, it does create a CHM, but when I try to open, it gives a Cannot Open File error. Then, when I try to compile again, I get an error that says "Cannot create compiled file. It may be open in another window...", which of course it is not, because I cannot open it.

So....I close everything down, restart, and try again - have done this about 6 times with no better result.

I am having way more problems with RH in the last 2 days than I have had with any software I can remember : ( - My company is building a V1 Enterprise level product, still in Alpha testing, and it's more stable. Arggggh....

Should I reinstall RH? Scrap the project and start from scratch? (no......too many hours investing in TOCs, settings, importing, templates, css, ect)

Any insights? Suggestions? Going home now....

Thanks.

Topic headings not showing in Firefox, with RoboHelp HTML version 8 WebHelp

1. I have just upgraded a customer's Help project to RH8, with a WebHelp layout.

The finished WebHelp Guide works fine in Internet Explorer 8.

But Firefox 3.0.1.5 (latest update) does not show topic headings (style Heading 1) where they are automatically linked to the Topic Properties > Topic Title.; i.e. the topic heading is a Field {Title}, using rh-variable_start name="title" etc. Firefox only shows the topic heading if the heading exists as text in the WYSIWYG field.

I checked a backup copy of the compiled WebHelp that I had generated using RoboHelp HTML version 7, and this works OK - all topic headings that are fields display OK in Firefox.

2. Also, some images (.gif format) do not display in Firefox that is generated by RH8.

Any ideas, anyone?

RoboHelp InDesign?

$

The company I am doing tech docs for uses InDesign as its primary documentation platform. I am now considering using RoboHelp for online tutorials.

It seems at this point that the only way to go from RoboHelp to InDesign would be to use either Word or FrameMaker as a bridge between them. It would be so nice to have direct import/export from both apps to eliminate the extra go between. Are there any third-party utilities, or any plans for future support in this area?

Hi,

I am using RH8.0.2.

  • I just updated my RH8 to RH8.0.2.
  • Delete the CPD file
  • Then followed the steps to repair broken links and Import the unused file.as mentioned in the following blog: http://blogs.adobe.com/techcomm/2009/12/applying_robohelp_service_release_802.html
  • Then compile my project to get CHM file through HTML compiler.
  • Compilation completed but many topics are missing
  • In output view i can see
  • HHC5003;Error:
  • Compilation failed while compiling http:\www.apradocs.com
  • I also find the broken links which i have fixed is again broken.

Please help

Thanks and Regards,

Merged Help - what should be in the parent .hhk file?

$

All,

Still trying to track down our blank index issues. Quick question, in a help system of 1 parent and 20ish children files, what should I be expecting in the parent's hhk file?

For example, this is what is in our current Parent.hhk:

<html>
<!-- Sitemap 1.0 -->
<object type="text/site properties">
  <param name="SiteType" value="index">
</object>
<ul>
  <li><object type="text/sitemap">
    <param name="Name" value="About the Help System">
    <param name="Name" value="About the Help System">
    <param name="Local" value="About_the_Help_System.htm">
  </object>
</ul>
</html>

Is this okay? Our parent file is a 'shell' file - it contains only two topics - the start page and an "About the Help System" page. Otherwise, it's sole purpose in life is to provide a TOC linked to the child .chm files.

The parent.hhk file above shows the single indexed topic within our parent file - the aforementioned "About" page - but nothing else. And unlike something like the .hhp file, there's no "MERGE" section or links/references to Child1.chm, Child2.chm, etc.

Should there be?

What is correct registry key for Word 2013 and RoboHelp 11?

$

The issue is that I am unable to generate Printed Documentation (i.e., RoboHelp will state, "Cannot find Microsoft Word on your system"). I can see this issue has occured in past, and I've done quite a bit of troubleshooting (i.e., looking at macro settings, virus checker, etc.) before hitting Adobe tech support.

For starters, here is my setup:

  • Windows 8.1
  • Word 2013 32-bit (perpetual license, installed local hard drive)
  • RoboHelp 11

I've installed word before robohelp, and I've tried re-install everything using 64-bit version of word. Though when that didn't work, I reverted to using 32-bit version of word. Adobe tech support directed me to following page about registry settings. However, it is quite out-of-date, so I'm asking if anyone has more current information?

http://helpx.adobe.com/robohelp/kb/robohelp-cannot-find-word.html

Using that page as a guide, I tried deducing what string robohelp is looking for, though this doesn't work, and I *really* need some specific technical information rather than being asked to guess. There's the matter of knowing what key robohelp is looking for, and what is the correct string name that robohelp wants.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe\RoboHelp\Word\10.00\Components\12
