Visited Links - Override all link colors

Hi,

I'm using RH8 in WebHelp and IE.  I read all the former postings regarding people having the same problem and some mentioned a fix in a .css but the .css wasn't available with the posting of March 25, 2008.

 

My visited link color seems to override all other link colors.  Originally I had the link colors in a style sheet and changed the colors in the .css.  That didn't work and all colors still were the visited link color.  I deleted the link colors from this .css and added the link colors via the RoboHelp Edit Styles.  Either way doesn't seem to work and all link colors are my visited color.  I've tried clearing my cache several times and this doesn't work, neither does deleting the history.

 

Can anyone shed some light on this?  Thanks very much for any help you can provide.

Exporting the TOC to text/Word/Excel?

Is there a way to export the TOC for a multi-project Help system into a text/word/excel doc?

 

We are need to have the entire TOC put into a planning doc (ug), and we'd prefer not to have to manually type it if at all possible.

TOC: chapter files aren't nested in books in combined TOC

Using RH9 in TCS3 on XP

 

I created a separate TOC for each of the books in my project. Each TOC has chapters nested within the root TOC folder.

 

Then I created a combination TOC and dragged the TOCs for each book to it.  When I generated FlashHelp, my TOC displays, but all of the chapters are displayed at the same level as the book TOCs. 

 

I hope no one tells me to do an update or force update.  I have so many manual fixes in this project, and I don't have the time to recreate everything.

Integrate HTML Help into a WordPress site (or similar)

Folks,

 

Has anyone ever had any success integrating a HTML Help into a WordPress site (i.e. search)?

 

We are building a customer support community and WordPress looks like the current favorite platform.

 

We would like users to be able so search and be presented with relevant:

  • Help posts
  • Forum topics
  • Pages
  • Blog posts
  • etc.

 

All suggestions most welcome!

Need help with Responsive HTML5 screen layout in RoboHelp HTML 11

I have a few questions/issues regarding screen layouts for Responsive HTML5 output in RoboHelp HTML 11.

 

First off, I decided to just use the Theme1_Standard layout that came with the program (only other default option was Theme2_Government) and started customizing the layout. I originally added a company logo to the 'Header' component in the Customization dialog, but have since decided to remove it. I can't seem to do this from the dialog, so I tried just deleting the image file from the whole project. The file is gone, but the logo is still there. This is only displayed in the header when a topic is displayed, it does not appear in the header at the TOC, Index, Search screen, etc. How do I get rid of this???

 

Secondly, the text in the header for the topic screens appears differently than the one on the screens for the TOC, Index, Search, etc. In the former of these, the header is displayed in maroontext in a much smaller font, similar to that used in the topics. In the latter, the topic is displayed based on what I configured in the Layout Customization dialog; much larger in white text on a black background. In each case the heading text serves as a link to the default display topic shown when the help file is launched, which is fine. However, how do I get the header to be consistent across all screens (topics and TOC, Index, etc. alike)???


As a result of these issues with the Theme1_Standard layout, I'm trying to import a different Responsive HTML5 screen layout than the two provided within RoboHelp HTML 11 (Standard and Government). I did some digging in the program help and found another layout I'd like to use (Theme3_Black.zip) at RoboHelp screen profiles and layouts. I tried importing the new layout, but it's looking for a .SLZ file and the only one in the files that came with the ZIP file is SLZConfig.xml, and I don't think that's what I need, though quite honestly, I don't know.

 

I extracted the contents of the ZIP folder to a folder in the !ScreenLayout! folder within the RoboHelp project, but when I open the project, I don't see Theme3_Black as an option. I need to figure out how to import this screen layout because the color scheme matches the one used in the program for which I am writing the help. How do I import and apply this other screen layout???

 

Any tips, tricks, or guidance on any or all of these items would be GREATLY appreciated.

Where are the user defined variable files in output folder?

It appears my user defined variables file has been corrupted. When I generate the HTML5 output, the project shows up correctly, but each variable is gone and replaced with the "ERROR (variable_missing...)" wording.

 

Please help! Where can I find the variable file and copy an older version into the latest project?

Weird { XE "" \* MERGEFORMAT } showing in Word generated document

Using RoboHelp HTML 5.0. When I publish my help system as a Word document, I am getting dozens of weird looking imbedded fields / codes in my document.

{ XE "" \* MERGEFORMAT}{ XE "" \* MERGEFORMAT}

Also see attached .jpg example. There is nothing weird or odd about the information trying to be converted. The style information is very basic. These topics have been sent to Word before. We update our User Guide once a quarter and it worked 3 months ago. This generation is occurring on a new machine with a recent installation of RoboHelp (last machine had a hard drive crash).

Ideas???

Internet Explorer restricted this webpage from running scripts or ActiveX controls

Hi guys,

When I run my help application, developped with RoboHelp 11 using Responsive HTML5 layout, I have the Ms-Internet Explorer message: 'Internet Explorer restricted this webpage from running scripts or ActiveX controls' If I click on 'Allow blocked content...', that message disappear, and everything works fine. But I want to find a way not showing this message.

How do I create Note: and Warning: type styles?

Hi Gurus!

 

Pretty sure I've seen a thread on this subject but I've been trying to find it for a few days now, and failed.

 

What I'm trying to do is create styles for notes, warnings and suchlike. You know the type:

 

Note: Remember to eat your 5 a day

 

Warning: Do not put underpants on after trousers!

 

type stuff, where the word Note: / Warning: appears automatically and the author just has to type in the note or warning text.

 

Any ideas/ hints / notes or warnings would be greatly appreciated

Error Message- The parameter is incorrect

Topic properties is accessed and error code "The Parameter is incorrect", hit OK, gets me to Properties but will not access template and style sheet (lets me access one or the other.) I think this happened when I accidently hit Generate PDF in the title bar by mistake........at least I hit that and this what I got. I need to get this error off so I can access style sheet and template at same time. I get this error on ALL topics when I try to access PROPERTIES.

HH_HELP_CONTEXT called without a [MAP] section

I downloaded the demo of the latest version RoboHelp and compiled a .chm file. I successfully enabled my program to recognize that we are using HTML help and can get the file to launch automatically. However whenever the help file is launched from the program I get the following error.

HH_HELP_CONTEXT called without a [MAP] section

I've checked to project settings and I have a .hm file under Map IDs. I've verified that the HID and number in the program match the HID and number in the .hm file and the HID and number in RoboHelp. Is there something else I have to do in order for the [MAP] section to be compiled into the .chm file?

Robohelp word and word 2010

Hi Peter,

 

In first attempt itself I managed to create project in Robohelp word. I imported an existing document which includes headers and footers, TOC, etc. But when I try to import another document to the same project, I got the error messages as shown below.

 

I tried several time but i couldn't able to create by importing a word document... Im just doing a trial because Robohelp HTML doesn't produce a good printed document output..

Issue with WebHelp output for RoboHelp 9 in IE 11

Hi,

When the WebHelp output for RoboHelp 9 is viewed in Internet Explorer 11, the following issues arise:

  1. Search functionality in WebHelp displays no search results.
  2. The WebHelp TOC do not display any entries.

Tried to fix the issue with the patch available in the link (http://www.wvanweelden.eu/blog/2014/06/14/ie11-patch-robohelp-9)
The webhelp doesnt open after the patch is applied.

The following error message pops up when i try to launch a simulation embedded in the webhelp. The webhelp has been generated in RoboHelp 11. Is there a way to launch the simulation without receiving this pop up?

Cannot Import word 2016 into RoboHelp 2015

I have few question question regarding importing word 2016 document into RoboHelp 2015:

1. Is RoboHelp 2015 Support importing the word 2016 Documents (64 bit)?

2. Can RoboHelp 2015 work with any MS Word Version(2013-2016) 32 bit ?

3. From one of the forums, we understood that RoboHelp 2015 supports only word 32 bit version  -

               a)What is the patch we need if we continue working on 64 bit version of  Word 2016?

               b)How soon in future we see RoboHelp 2015 Compatible with Word 2016(64 bit) assuming everyone is on 64 bit software these days?

HTML Marquee taking data from an external text file

I need to create a marquee which takes text from an external text file, so that when i change the text in the file, the marquee also changes. the marquee is placed in the header and displays on every page. Ihave no idea how to link to the external file. Any help will be appreciated.

Bookmark links do not work in responsive in mobile browsers

Hi,

I have created a project that contains bookmark links to locations both within the same topic and to locations in a different topic. When I generate the project in Responsive layout, the links do not work in mobile browsers (Safari, Chrome). They work fine on desktop.

 

First, or links within the same topic, pressing on the links in the mobile browser shows that some additional text is added to the link in the form: ?random=1b1falkfh... This text is included after the ".htm" of the link parent topic and before the "#" of the bookmark.

 

For example, a link to the bookmark "step_c" shows:

  http://www.mysite.com/manual/topic_2.htm?random=1b1fbn7fl_0egkh2j80#step_c

 

 

Second, links to a different topic simply go to the top of that topic, not to the bookmark. These links do not appear to be corrupted, they just don't function properly.

 

I generated this same project as Webhelp and these links all work properly in mobile browsers. It seems as though the Responsive layout is corrupting the bookmark links.

 

Please advise on fix. I am using RH 2015 rel. 3.

Do I need an internet connection for HTML5?

My doubt is if I can view content in HTML5 when I'm not connected to the internet.

 

In the IT company where I work for, we are currently using Microsoft HTML Help (CHM files) for creating helps to the software we develop here.

The problem is that microsoft compiled help will not have any new feature. So we were thinking about changing our helps to HTML5 layout. Also because it is responsive, we would like to use the dynamic content filtering, for many reasons.

 

However, our doubt is if our customer does not have connection to internet, will he/she be able to access the software help by clicking F1?

 

I am not a programmer, I am only a technical writer, maybe they know how to fix it (or they will figure out), but before I would like to know: Is it possible?
