RoboHelp 2017 WebHelp search not working in IE11

$

Hello. My issue is similar to a problem posted earlier. However, there are a few differences. We recently upgraded from RH9 to RH 2017 release (build 13.0.2.334). When generating WebHelp, FlashHelp, or Responsive HTML5 output the search feature did not work at all when previewed or when uploaded to our web server (not SharePoint). Adobe Tech Support sent the following instructions for a fix:

  1. Download the file from the fowling link: Link deleted by Moderator. See Post numbered 4 in thread.
  2. Once downloaded extract the zip file. Copy the file “loadprojdata.js”.
  3. Go to the location <RoboHelp_install_location>\RoboHTML\ResponsiveHelpExt\widgets\common\scripts> and replace with the existing one.

This fixed the search issue for Responsive HTML5 output when previewed and when uploaded to web server and viewed with IE11. It did not fix the issue for FlashHelp or WebHelp when uploaded to web server and viewed with IE11. Search works when previewed, but not when it's been uploaded to the web server. (Note: Adobe Tech Support told me that FlashHelp is dated technology, and it would be better to use WebHelp or Responsive HTML5 output. Given that our existing projects are quite large, it made sense to opt for WebHelp output. Otherwise we would have to "recreate" our projects if using Responsive HTML5 output.)

In summary, when our WebHelp output is viewed with IE11, the search feature does not work. However, when that same output is viewed using Firefox, the search feature works fine. IE11 is our primary web browser. Is the issue with RoboHelp 2017, or is it an IE11 problem? I appreciate any thoughts or suggestions you all may have.

Unable to make seperate HTML files from FrameMaker

I am trying to make separate HTML files from FrameMaker 9 documents in RoboHelp 10.

In Conversion Settings I have set Split Topics Using Marker to make HTML files using H1. It does not work and creates a file per FrameMaker chapter.

I am new to Robohelp 10. Is there a setting I am missing?

How do I fix project after "Remove From Version Control" corrupted it?

I am using RoboHelp 9.0.1 and installed both Tortoise SVN 1.6.9 and latest PushOK SVNSCC then added my large RoboHelp project to SVN. I was able to check in and out files from SVN but had several issues with it:

1) Super super slow. Working with folders or any renames would take 10 seconds per file and up to 1 hour if needed to refresh the root folder.

2) I could not perform some actions at all, such as delete, rename, or move folders. I kept getting COM errors.

I therefore decided that working with SVN and RoboHelp is not practical, at least not on my VPN so I decided to disconnect the project from source control and just work locally. The only option that I saw that sounded like it would do that was the "Remove from Version Control". This started a process that lasted for several hours. At the end of it, I now have several significant issues:

1) The order of the files and folders in my Project Manager is completely wrong now. I have almost 1000 topics and reordering all of them is not possible.

2) The Table of Contents, Glossary, and Index files appear empty. They had content before.

2) A couple of the Single Source Layouts I had created are completely missing.

3) Many, but not all, of the folders have tons of files with the extension ending in "_temp_removed_by_svn"

4) Many, but not all, of the files are actually gone from SVN so I can't recover a clean image. There was no warning that this command would actually delete the files from SVN (I thought it would just remove the version control connection).

5) Who know what other issue exist that I haven't seen.

Any idea how I can fix this?

Thanks in advance,

Dan

Branching does not work with RH9, TFS, & Microsoft Visual Source Control

Our release engineer, who is experienced with TFS and Source Control, has not been able to successfully branch the Release 1 project to a Release 1.5 branch in source control.

After some experimenting, he found that the XPJ file is not being updated with the correct path. He edited the path to the new path, but finds that there is still something in RH that is holding on to the original path.

Does anyone know whether this is a known problem and whether Adobe RoboHelp plans to fix branching in a future release? (Or is it fixed in RoboHelp 10?)

Thank you.

HTML5 and 'Mark of the web'

Are there any plans to add a 'Mark of the web' option for Responsible HTML5? Without it, end users using Microsoft Internet Explorer must set a security option to 'Allow active content to run on My Computer.' I know alternatives are to use Chrome or host the Help system (or ask end user to set up a web server in which to host the Help system), but neither of these workarounds are options at the present time. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Why does it take so long when adding a new topic in RH10 with PushOK SVN

RH10 / Window 7 / PushOK SVN

After ugrading from RH8 to RH10, we installed PushOK SVN and the TortoiseSVN Repository browser for our doc team as our source control system, after having used RoboSource Control 3.1 when we had RH8.. Whether in the office or working remotely via VPN, when we add a new topic it can take 1-3 minutes for the topic to actually be ready for input.

Checking in edited topics when closing the project can also take a good deal of time. I expected some of that for those of us using VPN remotely but for those in-house I didn't. Our IT guys are at a loss. They don't believe it's the network.

Is this a common issue? Is there a way around it? Or is there something that comes into play that we are not even considering? OR??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

"CHM not displaying according to stylesheet"

$

I have been using RoboHelp - currently RoboHelp 11 - for many years now. For some unknown reason, suddenly now my CHM files are displaying NOT according to my CSS stylesheet, which has not changed recently. Fonts and styles are completely different than CSS specifications, and my images are not getting pulled into the CHM output (just showing placeholders). I checked the stylesheet, and it still has the same font as we've had, which is Arial - the CHM is showing Times New Roman..

I am running Windows 7 Professional, by the way, with my RoboHelp 11..

Also the CHM is showing up correctly for the other users here. SO I'm suspecting there's something corrupted in my environment locally, my local install. Could it be the HH.EXE that's corrupt? Which source file should I look for, and I'm assuming it's within my Adobe > RoboHelp directory.

I would appreciate any help for where I should look and ideas about what I should do.

Also, note that my WebHelp output is fine. And HTML Help is our secondary output. (The WebHelp is "attached" to the system.

Thanks so much.

Hi All,

I am having a .CHM file generated with other than RoboHelp. I want to edit this .CHM file. But RoboHelp is not allowing me to open this file. RoboHelp is generating .CHM file with .XPJ input. What is the process of opening a .CHM file using RoboHelp? If any one knows about this let me know.

Context-sensitive topic appearance - Indigo template (RH2017)

$

Hello,

I have heavily customized the Indigo template to suit my company's design standards. All was looking good until I uploaded the new help to our server and tried out context-sensitive help from our application.

I am getting some other kind of page template that I didn't expect. It shows the topic contents only, and doesn't have the TOC/Search etc. At the top left is a link: "Click here to see this page in full context." This link doesn't even work properly - our correct help template flashes and then this odd "context topic" page returns.

If you would like to see what I am talking about, please click: Selecting Similar Objects

I have searched and searched, and cannot figure out where this context-sensitive page is coming from. It's not in Topic.slp that I can find. (Topic.slp is my Default page since I didn't care for the Homepage with its TOC links.) I do not see another page layout or slp page, or special css for this layout. I searched my .css files for the "Indigo" light blue color and I can't find it. I don't want this page... I want my context-sensitive page to display in the same topic page, with search and TOC functionality, etc. as when the help is accessed from our main help command.

Can anyone please help me stop this redirect to this page that does not display the "full context?" Or at the very least, help me know where I can change its appearance?

Thank you very much!
Alexandra

Contradictory compilation messages and !chm_tmp_folder_0

$

What I understand from other posts in this forum is that if everything goes well during a compile, the !chm folder goes away after the file is successfully compiled. Mine does not go away, and it seems to contain a duplicate of everything in the root help folder, which is just wasting space as far as I can tell.

When I compile, I get an HHC5003 Error stating that compilation failed while compiling a specific html file that I simply cannot find in the folder. The "file" appears to be a URL. After the error, I get a message that the file did not compile, but I also get "Compilation complete."

The help file works just fine and I cannot figure out how to resolve an error about a file that does not exist.

To be complete, what happens in the output view is that while RH compiles the .chm file it lists the .HHC and .HHK file, then the HTML files, the GIFs, and PNGs. This is what shows up after that:

RoboHHRE.lng

Prolith.hhc

Prolith.hhk

chip-prolith.html

HHC5003: Error:

Compilation failed while compiling http:\www.kla-tencor.com\lithography-modeling\chip-prolith.html.

Processing keywords...

Generating full-text search data...

Compacting file system...

The following files were not compiled:

http:\www.kla-tencor.com\lithography-modeling\chip-prolith.html

Finished compiling HTMLHELP in 166 sec(s)

Compilation complete.

I can categorically tell you that the www URL is a valid URL, but it does not appear anywhere in the help file and the "chip-prolith.html" file does not exist. Neither file appears in the !chm folder either.

I will appreciate your thoughts on how to resolve this HHC5003 error. I'd also like to know if it's safe to simply delete the !chm folder in the meantime.

Some pages are not displayed in Robohelp 11

In Robohelp 11 I am experimenting that some pages aren’t showed either in the Robohelp’s preview or in the browsers.

I have seen in the output file some code lines and scripts that I am sure Robohelp added by itself. I am experimenting that some pages are showed with that “extra” code lines and some do not.

In some cases, if I delete the code of that file, the pages are showed in a normal way.

In the beginning I was sure that the problem was due to the added code in the files, but when I copy and paste some pages with the problem, the pasted page (the new page) doesn’t have any problem and it is showed in a normal way. And also if I compare the html output of both pages, it is the same.

This is the code which I am talking about:

/**/<!--
div.WebHelpPopupMenu { position:absolute;
left:0px;

My questions are:

    1. What is the utility of the code that robohelp add, is it necessary?

    2. There are some way to avoid robohelp add this code to html output, with some configuration of robohelp?

    3. Why duplicating a page, the new works correctly and the other don’t, when both html outputs are the same?

I think that the problem may be due to an update of Robohelp, since previously it did not present the problem, and only happens with some pages of the project. I appreciate the help you can give me.

RoboHelp 2017 Update 2 search not working on IE for Indigo

We installed Update 2 for RoboHelp 2017 this week and found that searching from projects that use the Indigo HTML5 layout no longer works from Internet Explorer 11 but it continues to work in Chrome. We had no problem with IE11 prior to applying Update 2. Could this be a bug in Update 2? Is there a workaround? How can I remove Update 2?

TOC/Index slow to load

Hi all,
I have just followed Peter Grainge's methods for splitting a large project, and creating merged webhelp (thanks Peter!).

Everything is working as expected, except when the webhelp is first called the TOC and index take about 3 seconds to load from the UK. This increases to over 12 seconds in New York, which is pretty unacceptable.

When we had one large project the appearance of the TOC was instantaneous here in the UK, and much quicker in NY too.
Does anyone know if it is possible to speed this up?

I am publishing with Optimize Speed For Web Site, and I've tried excluding the Java Applet but this made no difference (I thought it might cut out some of the processing time). The actual help topic in the right pane appears instantaneously.

Many thanks,
Kate

I just converted from X5 to RH 8. I can open a single Web page in Chrome, but when I click on any of the buttons (Contents, Index, Search, Glossary), they do not work and displaying nothing. I've scoured the boards and found Peter's 103 snippet (http://www.grainge.org/pages/snippets/snippets.htm) and applied it to no effect. What am I missing??? Thanks.

Can I launch a CHM file with a parameter?

I'm trying to figure out a way to change the value of a Variable when I launch

the CHM file from my application. Basically, I have a setting in my software that needs to carry over into the CHM. In some cases, the document I work with will be called one thing, say "bob", and in some cases it will be called "jim". That way in any topic I write, I can say something like:

Click Save to save the changes to your <variable name>.

Instead of

Click Save to save the changes to your Bob or Jim.

Make sense? Any ideas?

SWF autoPlay

I am inserting some captiva 3 swf files in robohelp 7.02 and they start playing as soon as the page is opened. I would like the reader to read a senario prior to playing the swf file. I understand that there is an autoPlay=false command, but cannot figure out where to insert it into the html to stop the video from autoplaying. Any suggestions?

FM insets - PDF images do not display in RH

$

Using multiple versions of FM (10 and 2015), using insets in FM, inserting images in the FM insets by reference, inserting images as PDF files because the quality is good, linking FM book in RH....

The PDF figures do not display in RH and display as blank white spaces. So no PDF images are output to help files, such as Microsoft HTML help (CHM). Other formats can be used for images, such as PNG, but the quality degrades in RH.

The same applies to equations. They are blank in RH and have to be converted to PNG and inserted as an image/figure in FM in order to display with low quality in RH.

Is there any way to use PDF images when linking FM files with insets in RH?

Thanks.

RoboHelp 8 - slow performance

I am working with RoboHelp 8 and it is working very slowly.
It opens up slowly and sometimes one topic takes over 10 seconds to open up.

I upgraded the projects from RoboHelp 6.

Working in a local directory made no difference.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Debbie
