RoboHelp 7 Not Creating Topics from Word Heading Styles

$

0

In the past, RoboHelp 7 HTML (using 7.03.001 now) has always successfully imported my Word documents and separated the topics by Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3, as expected.

Now, something's changed (and I cannot figure out what) so that the imported topics include only Heading 1.

For example, when I import the Word document below and request topics be separated by Heading 1, Heading 2 and Heading 3, the resulting project has a single HTM topic, named Heading_1.htm, instead of 9 different topics (one for each heading style).

Any suggestions what I might be doing wrong?

Search Error: Failed to initialize database

I have been using RH HTML version 8.02 for several months. Recently, after compiling, the Search results do not work. The Search tab shows Error: Failed to initialize database. This occurs when I compile locally and to the server. Running MJ's Diagnostics did not fix the problem.

Thanks.

RoboHelp 2017 - Some links in Responsive HTML5 output are broken on iPhone

$

Hello,

we are currently using Adobe RoboHelp 2017 to create the help system for our new product. We really liked the Indigo layout, so we customized it (heavily) and applied it. That is working great so far.

However, I noticed today that some of the links in the topics themselves are not working on iPhone (iPhone SE and iPhone 6). When I tap them, the same page is just reloaded and sometimes after the tap, the content is no longer scrollable.

I thoroughly tested the links on other devices (Android Galaxy S4 mini, iPad, Android Galaxy Tab S2, iMac, various Windows 10 browsers) and the links work everywhere else.

You can check this behavior yourself on iPhone: For example, in CELUM Marketing Project Management Help the links (light blue, bold text) in the section "First steps" don't work at all and only reopen the same page ("Get started") again, while the links in the bullet list on the same page work fine.

On other pages it is also wildly different between links and pages and I can't really see a pattern why some links are failing while others are not.

I would really appreciate your help with this problem, thanks very much.

Technical details:

RoboHelp 2017 Version 13.0.1.279 - I haven't installed Update 2 yet after I found out that the search is broken in that one.

We are also using the link_to_dropdown.js script provided by William Van Weelden, but the links on the "Get started" page don't lead to a dropdown, just to normal RoboHelp topics.

RoboHelp 2017 Responsive Output

I have a pretty customized version of the charcoal gray responsive layout. Everything is (now) working fairly well, but for one odd corner case. It may not be a huge issue, but we have a couple of users with very large screens, and when you open the help on those screens, the index does not take up all of the available space or produce a scroll bar.

Here's a normal view, after loading and scrolling a bit to show that yes, there's plenty of stuff in the index:

rh_index_normal_desktop.png

Now, when the user with the huge monitor (think 40") loads the index in the same browser (chrome v. 62.0.3202.94), it looks like this:

rh_index_initload.png

See all of that empty space on the bottom?

Now, I can replicate this on my machine by making the magnification level very small:

rh_index_initview_replicated.png

So, I looked for a max-height in the css, there is none, and adding one, no matter what I set it to (I tried 50,000 em!), it actually makes the problem worse.

If anyone has any ideas, I'm willing to try! I haven't tried in a non-customized version of the layout, but may later... but I don't think I changed anything that would have any effect on this. This only happens in the desktop view, and changing to mobile, viewing the index, then changing back to desktop fixed it on the large monitor, but not on my magnified replication.

RoboHelp 2019 and SharePoint Online Settings

$

Hi, we are in the process of upgrading from RoboHelp 2017 to RoboHelp 2019 and I am having trouble getting the SharePoint connection to work for version control. When we upgraded our current project, it removed the SharePoint settings we had set up (it would have been nice to know that those wouldn't transfer over...it makes me worry that there are other settings that didn't transfer as well). I then figured out that although we used the SharePoint Connector in the 2017 version to connect to the version of SharePoint hosted on our company website, that is no longer an option with RoboHelp 2019.

We have Sharepoint Online accounts, so it's possible to switch over to SharePoint Online, but when I add a connection profile nothing happens. I'm signed in and connected, but no folders show up in the selection window (see below) even though there are folders on the Sharepoint site:

selectionwindow.jpg

The RoboHelp instructions were so vague that they aren't any help. When I was on the phone with Adobe support, the woman I talked to said they had more detailed instructions but didn't send them over after repeated requests. The Adobe support staff I spoke to on the phone were unable to help me and didn't seem to have much experience with connecting RoboHelp to Sharepoint Online.

Are there certain settings I need to enable on the Sharepoint site in order for this to work? Does anyone have a more detailed step by step documentation of this process?

If anyone could help, I'd really appreciate it. Setting up Sharepoint version control for the 2017 version was pretty easy so I had no idea this would be such a problem.

RoboHelp 2019 & Internet Explorer 11 issue

We are having issues displaying RoboHelp 2019 non-classic sites via Internet Explorer (11) over the intranet.

We have several RoboHelp 2017 sites hosted via IIS 7.5 on a Windows web server (over intranet).

We are beginning to use RoboHelp 2019 (classic & non-classic), using WebHelp and Responsive HTML5.

The 2019 classic sites have no issues displaying.

The 2019 non-classic sites are NOT viewable in Internet Explorer 11 over the intranet.  A blank page with 4 grey squares appears.

The 2019 non-classic sites ARE viewable in Chrome over the intranet.

The 2019 non-classic sites do display successfully locally on the web server.

However, when these sites are 1st accessed locally on the web server in IE, a HTTP 500.19 error appears.

The URL is http://localhost:97

When the IE browser is refreshed, a login screen prompt appears.  After entering login information, the page displays.

The URL changes to http://localhost:97/#t=MainProject%2FSplash.htm

But the site is still not viewable over the intranet in IE.  It's a blank page with 4 grey squares.

We tried both URL's http://servername:97& http://servername:97/#t=MainProject%2FSplash.htmbut neither work.

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Thanks

RH2017 Responsive HTML5 Search Issue w/ Conditional Text

$

Hello,

I am using Conditional Text throughout my project to generate 2 versions of the document. I have conditions set on text within topics as well as conditions set on the topic level.

When I generate my 2 Responsive HTML5 versions, at first, everything looks fine - the text within the topics is correctly generated and TOC is displaying the correct topics. However, when I do a search in one version, I'm seeing hits from topics from the OTHER version, which is not exactly the desired experience. Plus, the breadcrumbs that appear below it makes the search look messy (see attached image - as you can see, I am suppressing the Context line because I felt it was just too wordy for the search panel).

AdobeForum_searchIssue.png

I have tried the "Exclude this topic from search" option in "Topic Properties," but this is just not practical to maintain w/ the number of files (and me forgetting that I need to turn OFF that setting, etc.). I just don't understand why the Conditional Text is NOT being respected here for searching.

I am using:

  • RH2017 - all patched up / latest screen layout versions
  • Windows 7
  • Conditional Text (within topics and
  • Generating R-HTML5 / Azure Blue Screen Layout
  • Using two separate TOCs; both w/ Conditionalized Topics within (they share many topics, but some topics ONLY apply to one version, and vice versa)
  • In the R-HTML5 Settings, I have both "Exclude Unreferenced Topics from Output" and "Exclude Unreferenced Baggage Files from Search" SELECTED

I don't see any other options to enable/disable that control the search results.

If there is a way to suppress the filename/path, I'd like to know that too!

Thank you in advance for any assistance you have for me.

Sidebar toc and Home page navigation tiles. How do I determine which topics are included / excluded from both?

$

Hi

I've been using the Indigo HTML 5 layout for a year now and have just noticed some of the new topics I am creating are not being listed in the sidebar toc. Also, as I am creating new "top level" sections"  I might need to add some more topics  "Tiles" to the Home (top level) page of my generated help. I worked out how to set all of this up 1 year ago and quite frankly I've forgotten how it's done.

Could somebody remind me how / where to do this? I'm sure I'll slap myself when I'm reminded!

Thanks

Compilation of the source code with RHCL not generating proper compiled output

$

Hi All,

I need an urgent help for the below issue I am facing when compiling the Robo Help source code with RHCL.

When the source is complied using command line Utility RHCL we found following issues:

a) Some of the .gif images are not properly copied to the output folder. due to which some images are missing from the Help output

b) We found when ever there is a pop-up in the source content the complied output is not working. That means in the complied output when click the those link to open pop-up images it is not working:

I am using the following command line:

RHCL D:\Junk\UAT_Test\ExtSource\PccNet.Rpt.Help\PCC_Contract\PCC_Contract.xpj -l "WebHelp" -o D:\sukanta\workings\projects\VSTS\ReleaseManagement\RoboHelp\TestOutPut-1

But the strange thing is that when the same code is complied from the RoboHelp interface itself (not using the command line) the things are working fine.

For analysing the difference i made some investigation and found the version generated using RHCL utility have many missing thing specially related to pop-ups like the one below:

FileDifference-Greenshot.png

And difference in file:

Complied with RoboHelp Interface:

class="FieldName">Create Contract (OPCNW01)</span> screen <a href="javascript:void(0);" id="a34" onmouseover="if (parseInt(navigator.appVersion) >= 4 &amp;&amp; typeof(BSPSPopupOnMouseOver) == 'function') BSPSPopupOnMouseOver(event);" class="BSSCPopup" onclick="BSSCPopup('../Images/s_opcnw01.gif',790,392);return false;"><img src="../Common/i_thumbnail.gif" alt="" title="Click to view screen-capture"

Complied with RHCL Tool:

class="FieldName">Create Contract (OPCNW01)</span> screen <a href="javascript:void(0);" id="a34" onmouseover="if (parseInt(navigator.appVersion) >= 4 &amp;&amp; typeof(BSPSPopupOnMouseOver) == 'function') BSPSPopupOnMouseOver(event);" class="BSSCPopup" onclick="BSSCPopup('../Images/s_opcnw01.gif',,);return false;"><img src="../Common/i_thumbnail.gif" alt="" title="Click to view screen-capture"

style="border: none;" width="24" height="18" border="0" /></a>

You can fine missing Height-Width of popup in RHCL complied version

Can Help me to fix this issue, what can be the solution for this.

Breadcrumbs in responsive help in Internet Explorer

$

This is an FYI post because upgrading your version of IE to 11.0.110 will fix the issue. Adding it here so the answer is available for anyone receiving complaints! I did not report it as a bug because it's not Adobe's bug and is fixed in a newer version of IE.

Stats:

  • Using RH 2019 (not classic). This does not happen in outputs from similar projects in RH 2017. I did not try classic 2019.
  • Responsive output.
  • Have tried in both the Azure_Blue and Charcoal_Gray outputs and the same thing happens, it's not layout-specific as far as I can tell.
  • Table of Contents (TOC) must have books that are not linked to topics but do contain topics.
  • Topic must have breadcrumbs somewhere in the topic.
  • Only happens in Internet Explorer 11.0.105 and before. Fixed in IE 11.0.110.

Description of error:

  1. Open output in Internet Explorer.
  2. Use the TOC to browse to a topic that is first*** in the list of topics below a book with no linked topic.
  3. In that topic, click the link to the folder that your topic is in. This will result in one of two errors:
    • If the project is housed on web site or intranet, "403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied."
    • If opening from Windows File Explorer you see the directory tree for the folder.

***Note that the error doesn't occur if you click the second (or lower) link in a folder but instead produces the desired behavior, which is to open the first link in the folder.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2KrdIoYLujU" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Desired (and previous) behavior:

  • Clicking the breadcrumb link to the containing folder opens the first link in the folder.

FIX:

  • Upgrade your version of Internet Explorer to 11.0.110 or greater.

Are Skins Specific to the Output Type?

$

I am using RoboHelp 2019 Update 5.

I am trying to select the Azure Blue skin for my Web Help output. When I try to select the Azure Blue skin for the Layout of my new preset, I get the error message: "The skin already exists. Edit the existing skin or create a new one." I don't want to edit it, I want to use it. Since Azure Blue has the Responsive HTML 5 icon next to it, I assume that I can only use it with the Responsive HTML 5 Output Preset and not the WebHelp out preset.

Can I use the Azure_Blue skin for a WebHelp output preset in RoboHelp 2019?

Broken Links - Inconsistent Between Users

$

I am working in RoboHelp 2017.

I took over for another person in owning our RoboHelp site in November, and ran into no issues until Mid-January. After I generated the output for the project, saved and closed the project, then reopened it the majority of my page links became broken (only 190/2,300 still work). I tried clearing cache, had saved a back-up of the project to our server, so I tried redownloading and deleting the one that I was working from (as I had made a minor update, easy to edit), and nothing worked.

I had the person who used to own the project attempt to open the project on their computer, by also redownloading my backup from the server and everything looks fine on their RoboHelp.  The only differences between our RoboHelps that I can think of is that I had the 2019 version installed on my computer before I uninstalled the 2019 version and installed the 2017 version, and the fact that I am the one that made this update.

The only thing I am seeing is that, there is a trend towards the pages that work being part of the TOC, but even that is inconsistent.

Let me know if there is any further information that I can provide to give greater context to this issue.

Thank you!

Hello,

I'm using robohelp#7 and was wondering if there's a way to compare 2 output chm files in such a way that only shows the delta, i.e the changes made from previous version? alternatively, is there a way to see track changes in the xpj project?

Thx for all who can assist here,

Aliasing Problem: res://ieframe.dll/dnserrordiagoff.htm#mk:

$

I have had this problem a few times before and I need to get to the bottom of it.

I just aliased about 12 tabs in a dialog box and most of them worked. One, however displays an error message when I hit F1.

I looked at the address in properties of the error message and compared it to the address of tabs that worked, and it showed

res://ieframe.dll/dnserrordiagoff.htm#mk:@MSITStore:C:\Program%20Files\Statistica\Statistica%2013\version6.chm::/redirect/DMNode sA/StabilityAnalysis/WorkspaceNodeStabilityAnalysisEditParametersAdvancedTab.htm

Compared with the link of a aliased file that works:

mk:@MSITStore:C:\Program%20Files\Statistica\Statistica%2013\DMNodesA.chm::/BasicStatistics /StabilityAnalysis/WorkspaceNodeStabilityAnalysisEditParametersGeneralTab.htm

So the broken one has res://ieframe.dll/dnserrordiagoff.htm#mk:

at the beginning and has "redirect" in it. It also points to the wrong project. This is a group of merged projects and we alias in a different project that where the topic resides.  And we are using RoboHelp 7.  I just have to get through this one more release and we are upgrading and reorganizing, but I do have to solve this problem with what we have.

Where could this problem happen?  The structures of both topics are the same in the ali file of the project where it is aliased.  I also looked at the h file and it looks correct.

But that Help ID is obviously not pointing to the correct place.

That one topic displays in the TOC correctly, but doesn't show up in search.  The rest do.

I have used the map ID to unmap and remap many times and it doesn't make any difference.

Does anyone know what I can do or what file I can edit to fix this problem? It's already taken up way too much of my time.

Thanks,  Susan

Resolving unbroken broken links in RH 2017

$

I was working in a very long topic and suddenly saw a broken link notification. RoboHelp shows four broken links to the same popup, but of course clicking Edit does not take me to the actual link RH thinks is broken, only to the page. I had not touched that popup anywhere in the topic. I have checked every one of the named popups--and there are many--and they all display properly. I checked the links in the RH topic and in the topic preview. How can I get resolve an error that's not there?

--sigh--

Never mind. The problem was that the popup link text is shown two different ways (I did not create this topic) and I copied some links that used the second format. RH does not like to copy links, I've found. I could have easily figured this out if RoboHelp was actually helpful enough to take you directly to whatever links it thinks are broken.

Add or change topic status?

$

Hi,

I am pretty new to this community and maybe also not yet that familiar with RoboHelp 9, which I have been using recently. I have notice that in RoboHelp there is the option to change the topic status e.g. to Ready for Review etc.

We are working in a small team of 3, often on  the same project using RoboSource. I'd like to use the topic status in order to track if an author or translator has completed all his task to make sure an follow-up author is aware that he can basically start with his tasks. I know there is the To Do list, but I didn't find as convenient reporting tools as for the topic status.

My question is now, is there any option to add additional topic status or any chance to add the To Do List e.g. to the Topics List pod as column title? Maybe there is also a more practical way to achieve the same result.

Thanks for your help!

Christian
