Is it possible to access the current document contents using ExtendScript?

In a review of RoboHelp 2015, Willam van Weelden said "...scripts have access to the currently opened document. Scripts can modify text selection in topics and copy and paste selected content."

 

I have tried to work out how to do this, but the RoboHelp object model seems to be very badly documented. Furthermore, the ExtendScript toolkit editor seems incapable of opening the full object tree in its Data Browser pane; it just locks solid for ages and then gives up. The ExtendScript Object Model Viewer is similarly useless, giving no useful information about data types etc.

 

Can anyone give me some clues to the objects I need to access the content of the currently opened document?

Branching does not work with RH9, TFS, & Microsoft Visual Source Control

Our release engineer, who is experienced with TFS and Source Control, has not been able to successfully branch the Release 1 project to a Release 1.5 branch in source control.

 

After some experimenting, he found that the XPJ file is not being updated with the correct path. He edited the path to the new path, but finds that there is still something in RH that is holding on to the original path.

 

Does anyone know whether this is a known problem and whether Adobe RoboHelp plans to fix branching in a future release? (Or is it fixed in RoboHelp 10?)

ehlpdhtm.js error in RoboHelp HTML 2015; converting from RoboHelp 8

Hello.  I apologize if this has already been asked and answered; I tried a search with no luck.  I am testing RoboHelp 2015 and am converting my RoboHelp 8 projects to do it.

 

After converting an old project, when I open a topic select View Item, I receive this error:

Whether I select Yes or No, the topic opens but I can't select any of the drop-downs to see the content inside.  This doesn't seem to be a problem for the finished output after I generate the webhelpl, but I still need to be able to just view topics to see how they look.

 

Any suggestions?

AirHelp printing: can RH redirect user print requests to PDF/.doc versions? Or can the print menu be disabled perhaps?

Hello. I am looking for a way to either: remove the 'Print' menu option in an AirHelp app... or if that is not possible, some way to point that menus options to print PDF or perhaps .doc versions of my content (as the quality of printing from AirHelp is atrocious at best)? Essentially I seek any way to improve upon my customers' experience when and if they migrate to that pesky print button.  Unfortunately however, I have yet to find anything. Is there a way to do one or both of these tasks, or if not... perhaps there is another way to improve the quality of printing from AirHelp (or remove the option entirely)?  Any advice would be most appreciated, thank you!

RH 2015 Responsive HTML5 Output How does the TOC display on small screens?

I generated the Responsive HTML5 output and tested in on the iPhone and iPad and the topics look great. Is there supposed to be a TOC on smaller devices? Clicking any .htm file in my output folder displays the TOC on my laptop. The same isn't true for the smaller screens, just the topic displays. Can I create a link to the TOC for each topic? Thanks.

Proper Import of cropped Images (from Word File) in Robohelp

Hello,

if I import Word-Files, which contain cropped Images, the Images appear in Robohelp without the cropping.

How can I import these Images properly without modification?

Simple direct copying works but this involves a great effort.

RoboHelp's air installers no longer install with AIR 4.0 update?

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

After updating to AIR 4.0.0.1390, our RH air help installers no longer work. This includes .air help from 2 - 3 years ago, which have installed fine all these years, all the way up to a recent .air file we created for an upcoming release. This problem occurs on both Mac and Win, with the US version of AIR and the Chinese version of AIR, and it's a critical problem for us. Now when you double-click the .air file to install the help, you get this message:

"Sorry, an error has occurred. The application could not be installed because the installer file is damaged. Try obtaining a new installer file from the application author."

Well, the application author is us. But this isn't a problem that we can fix, because it happened with the AIR 4.0 update.

Version 3.8 of AIR works fine. Version 3.9 broke our context-sensitive help on the Mac (bug 3648177, filed in Oct, not that it did us any good). Now version 4.0 has broken our air help completely. We are transitioning to HTML5 help but not quickly enough, it seems.

Can anyone confirm that the same thing happens?

Generate PDF Output

I'm using RH2015.  I have Office 2013 installed, although I have no intention of creating Word docs.  I have built my project and successfully generated .chm files.  However, now I need to generate a PDF.  When I click on 'Printed Documentation' in the Output, I get a box that says:  'The parameter is incorrect'.  I click OK and it pops again...OK again and now I get past it.  I complete all the entries on the pages, but when I click (finally) to Generate, nothing happens.  In the Print Document General window (the first one), none of the drop down options have anything in them.  I select the Adobe PDF option, and uncheck the Word option and get the 'parameter' warning again...but OK clears it.  I click Next...I see the TOC and Chapter Layouts as they are in my project...Next again, and I see the topics...but the Section Layout is basic.  Do I have to completely reset all the topics into the section layout box?  Why?  I already did this creating my project.  But, I can click Next without doing anything....and when I Save and Generate.....nothing happens.

The PDF for RH2015 is kind of useless.......

Any help from anyone?

Creating PDF

I'm pretty much a novice with RH, but have muddled through just about everything except the printed docs.  I did create a PDF in a previous version of RH (7,8,9)...not sure.  I have Word 2013 and have updated RH, but, here's what I get.  When I select printed Documentation, I occasionally get a 'Parameter Incorrect' error, but clicking OK, goes right around it.  In the first window, I get this:

Empty TOC etc.  I click Next

Now, this looks to me like I should be ready to go....but I click Next

 

And here is where everything goes downhill:

Now, when I originally created this entire piece, I selected the Microsoft HTML Help (CHM) function, however, when I did this in previous versions, it worked fine.  I am assuming since the 'section layout' is basically empty, there is nothing moving there?  Do I have to create this entire thing by hand?

 

I've been looking in the forums, and the Help PDF, but cannot find an answer.  My best guess here is that something is broken but I have no idea what.

I'm on RH8. If one adds a pdf file into a project as a baggage file, can a user search info within the pdf or would the search only point to the pdf document?

Why is the font changing?

When I create a document in Googles Doc and download as a PDF....I then select booklet for printing and the print size is so small you cannot read it.....I can't make the font size any larger or it won't fit on page.  I am using Calibri 14...I started with Calibri 11 and thought changing the font size would help....but it doesn't seem to matter....it gets a bit larger but not enough to be legible.

How to link to a external document that contains bookmarks

I'm working in Robohelp 8 and I have an existing Robohelp that I'm modifying.

 

I have been provided a WORD document that's approximately 72 pages.  There is a table of contents that have bookmarks.

 

I tried to setup a link to each topic that were bookmarked but it does not seem to work.   The previous link that I setup in my Robohelp project, seems to take on the next link that select within that WORD document.

 

Can this be done?

 

Please advise.

Sorry, I put my question in the wrong forum

 

I'm working in Robohelp 8 and I have an existing Robohelp that I'm modifying.

 

I have been provided a WORD document that's approximately 72 pages which has a table of contents that has bookmarks.

 

I tried to setup a link to each topic that were bookmarked but it does not seem to work.   The previous link that I had setup in my Robohelp project, seems to take on the next link for a different topic that I had selected from the WORD document.

 

Can this be done?

information types

In RoboHelp 11, information types only work in Microsoft HTML output. In more recent versions of RoboHelp, do information types function in other types of output in addition to Microsoft HTML? I really don't want to use that output type.

Prevent inline styles when importing from FrameMaker

I'm using Adobe Technical Communication Suite 3.5 (FrameMaker 10, RoboHelp 9).

 

I'm importing FrameMaker books into RoboHelp HTML (via File > New > Project > Import). Unfortunately, the tables in the book end up as HTML tables that use a lot of inline styles (style attributes on individual elements), which I'm finding difficult to override with CSS.

 

Is it possible to import FrameMaker books so that inline styles are never used?

Linking Problems in RH 2015 using Windows 10.

I'm using Robohelp 2015 with Windows 10 OS.  Is RH 2015 compatible with Windows 10 yet?  I'm having problems with the software not responding, particularly when creating or editing a hyperlink.  When I click OK, nothing happens.  My coworkers are running Windows 7 and using RH 2015, and they're not having any issues.  We're troubleshooting the problem, and would like more information to determine the cause.

Expanded air files

Hello,

 

We're using RoboHelp software to create our help files. The output is generated as .air file.

 

For deployment we're using InstallShield Basic MSI projects.

 

In order to include the help files we have 2 options:

 

1. Include the .air file in the IS MSI and run the AdobeAir installer (silent, eventually) to install the air files.

2. Include the expanded (installed somewhere and copied) help files / folders in the IS MSI and just copy them on the target machine. The expanded air files/folder do not require any other registration, etc, in order ru be used.

 

The first option would be the correct one, but I have 2 problems:

- I cannot (simply) fully identify the airinstaller.exe location (Versions/1.0/Ressources) considering that the '1.0' could be different on client's machine;

- A proper AdobeAir install will record the help package in the installed programs which will look weird as a distinct piece of software from our installed product.

 

So, I want to try the second option. This implies that the RoboHelp output .air file has to be first deployed (expanded) in order to get the list of files and folders.

 

Is it possible to set up RoboHelp so it generates all these files directly?

 

We are working exclusively under / for Windows OS.
