Generating WebHelp/HTML After Upgrading from RoboHelp for Word X3

My client is looking to change the way they generate help for an internal application. Until now, they've been using RoboHelp for Word X3.  I was able to import the existing project into RoboHelp 10 and generate "Primary Layout (WebHelp)."  I opened the generated help in IE and FireFox and found the Table of Contents, which generated well.

 

Most but not all of the individual help pages will not open, however. Those that will not open are in CHM format. FireFox is reporting errors like "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (rmation.chm) isn't associated with any program."  Can anyone advise me on how to proceed?

Search function not working. I have upgraded from RH8 to RH11 (WebHelp), now search function brings no results, 'Error: Failed to initialize database' appears.

Upgraded from RH8 to RH11 (WebHelp), now search function brings no results, 'Error: Failed to initialize database' appears.

Referring to the solution to a similar issue with RH2015 provided by Ankit (26Aug15), my generated output has no "topictable_12_xml.js" file nder whxdata.

Help Indexes only points to 1 topic

Does any one run into this problem when you use the Smart Index Wizard, it generates indexes that points to 1 topic?

Hi,

 

I'm a prospective RoboHelp customer -  currently using Frame with WebWorks. I'm just starting to evaluate RoboHelp as an alternative and one of the things high on my wish list would be the ability to apply a custom marker in Frame that could be converted to an anchor tag in the WebHelp format output.  My content supports a set of fairly sophisticated scientific analytical tools, and there are many instances in which multiple elements in setup dialogs or other configuration screens warrant extended explanation, but I don't wish to chunk my help topics into an excessive number of small sections.

 

So it would be nice to be able to provide links somewhat like the Microsoft HTML "What's This?" function in which the link would open a larger topic at the relevant subsection.

Home button throws script error with new company website

RH11 Version 11.0.0.179

My company just redesigned their website and the Home button on the CHM now throws the following series of errors.  If you click 'Yes' to continue, it will eventually launch the website, but in a mobile view.  For instance, it has a menu button instead of the menu items across the page.

 

Script Errors:

These are all Line:0, Char:0, Script Error

### Links to js files removed.

 

Then you get:

Line:6

Char:31

Error: Bootstrap's JavaScript requires jQuery

### Links to js files removed.

 

Followed by:

Line: 5

Char:1

Error: 'jQuery' is undefined

### Links to js files removed.

 

The website is www.epis.com.

 

Any thoughts on how to fix?  Is this something the web designer needs to address?

Protecting Compiled CHM files

I was asked to devise a way to protect our finished product... the CHM file. Protect it from copy, theft and alteration. I came up with only two things, neither of which are options in RoboHelp9. Does anyone else protect their generated help files? And if so, how do you do it?

Transitioning from Innovasys HelpStudio to Robohelp

Hi everyone,

 

Not sure if this is a relatively common scenario. I didn't find a great deal after googling unless it was going from Robohelp to HelpStudio. Anyhow, I have just inherited a project which was created using the aforementioned HelpStudio (also known as Document! X). I would really prefer to avoid purchasing licenses for this tool and use Robohelp instead. Anyone dealt with this before that could advise me?

Output PDF with no MS Word installed ?

Hello ! It seems that MS Word is required to be able to produce PDF with the 'Printed Documentation' function... How should I overcome this, as I have no intention to purchase it just to properly use RH ...

SWF autoPlay

I am inserting some captiva 3 swf files in robohelp 7.02 and they start playing as soon as the page is opened. I would like the reader to read a senario prior to playing the swf file. I understand that there is an autoPlay=false command, but cannot figure out where to insert it into the html to stop the video from autoplaying. Any suggestions?

Window and Dialog Level Help

We are currently using Robohelp 10 integrated with TFS 2012. Our window/dialog level help topics match the name of the window and this is how the help at that level is called.  We would like to switch to Map IDs instead. Has anyone else made this switch and is it better for the programmers to feed me the IDs or for me to generate it in Robohelp and give it to them?

Dynamic Content Filtering

I am trying to meet a customer request to provide dynamic
filtered content that will be used in a specific way. The customer would like
four buttons representing information categories to be available on a cover page. By clicking on a button,
dynamic filtering would filter out topics that are not
conditionally tagged for that specific category. They do not want the user to use the filtering
tool. Instead, they would like to click on a button or image that invokes the
filter.

 

 

Is there a way to accomplish this, such as through the use
of creating a script?

RoboHelp's air installers no longer install with AIR 4.0 update?

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

After updating to AIR 4.0.0.1390, our RH air help installers no longer work. This includes .air help from 2 - 3 years ago, which have installed fine all these years, all the way up to a recent .air file we created for an upcoming release. This problem occurs on both Mac and Win, with the US version of AIR and the Chinese version of AIR, and it's a critical problem for us. Now when you double-click the .air file to install the help, you get this message:

"Sorry, an error has occurred. The application could not be installed because the installer file is damaged. Try obtaining a new installer file from the application author."

Well, the application author is us. But this isn't a problem that we can fix, because it happened with the AIR 4.0 update.

Version 3.8 of AIR works fine. Version 3.9 broke our context-sensitive help on the Mac (bug 3648177, filed in Oct, not that it did us any good). Now version 4.0 has broken our air help completely. We are transitioning to HTML5 help but not quickly enough, it seems.

Can anyone confirm that the same thing happens?

IE11 renders a blank webhelp popup window(doesn't happen on first instance but from thereon) Version: Robohelp 2015 Trail.

HI

 

 

I am using trail version of robohelp2015, I have few issues when i open webhelp popups from the links in webpage in IE. It works fine in Chrome.

 

 

I click on help in on page, which opens a webhelp popup window. i don't close the popup and go to next page in my test website on now again click on help. Now it refreshes the webhelp popup with blank window in IE11.

 

 

Help would be appreciated.

Mapping FM Tables to RH: edits to the tables are not reflected in RH

I am linking a FM book in RH and most of the things are converted without any issues except for tables. I edit for the conversion settings for FM documents and select the table, then I edit the selected table where I change the fonts, borders, width of the table. None of the changes to the table is reflected in RH. I don't want any borders and I want a different font in the table? The table refuses any changes.

When I right click the table to select the Table Properties >  Table Borders > None, the change appears in RH but do not appear in the browser. Only the top and the left borders reflect the changes the rest of the table has the borders.

 

Does anybody have a solution to this problem?

Cannot link to a bookmark.

Dear all,

 

When I click on a hyperlink which links to a bookmark of another topic, the Content pane did not display the exactly position of this bookmark, it displayed the content above this bookmark. (This bookmark is placed at the beginning of the title of a paragraph).

Anyone has this experience, please help me.

Webhelp Template error (RegisterResolvers)

Hi all,

I've already googled, plus I looked into similar discussions here, but no solutions.

 

ENVIRONMENT

We have:

  • Windows XP
  • Robohelp 7 (inside the technical Communication Suite)
  • Webhelp output
  • MS Word 2007

As others, this environment is working perfectly since years. Last Webhelp output was October, 2013.

 

BACKGROUND

We compiles our projects and got the error, we create a new quite empty project and we got the error.

We did the following action without luck:

  • BitDefender Antivirus paused
  • Administrator proviledge got (nothing changed on this machine, just strange thing that Start, Control panel, User account is empty..)
  • .cpd removed
  • run the RoboScriptReg.exe (found somewhere) in the Program/Adobe/Programs/Robohelp HTML folder

 

ERROR

"Initializing compiler...

Generating Webhelp 5.50 (7.01.001)...

Template Active Script Error: Fail to initialize script.

Template Error: can not resolve macro: RegisterResolvers

 

Fatal Error: Cannot run macro: Register Resolvers in compilation script"

 

REQUEST

We have to delivers this weeks eight project in two languages, we need to solve this issue.

p.s: we are even users of MadCap Flare. Our customer does not want to upgrade to a new product and for this reason we area still woring in RH7

How to insert a meta tag in the head element in htm topic files?

(I am using RoboHelp 9, but have also tried RoboHelp 11 with exactly the same results.)

 

Our application requires the WebBrowser control to run in IE9 compatibility mode. This means that when launching help (chm) the help viewer will also use IE9 compatibility mode as it is running in the same process. As Chm files are meant to be viewed in IE7 compatibility mode, this causes various issues with the layout of the help topics.  We have found that to fix this problem each topic needs the following meta tag in the head element:

<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />

As our help system consists of several thousand htm/topic files, we can obviously not do this manually. So in order to have this automatically inserted, I need to edit the mother file that generates the topic files. I have tried to find this file, but no luck. Does anybody know how to do this?

Using a certificate from PC's Certificate Store

I use RoboHelp 11 to create AIR help. My AIR file is digitally signed in RoboHelp by specifying the certificate file and entering a password. However, my company requires that I only use a certificate that is installed by the company in my PC's Certificate Store. There is no longer a file or password for me to enter into RoboHelp. Does anyone know if there is a process for doing this? Can RoboHelp (2015 release) allow this source for a certificate?
