RoboHelp HTML 7 WebHelp: Table of Contents will not display

$

I have created a rather large WEB Help system (about 9,000 topics), using RH7 HTML. My users have been using the Help system successfully for 6 or 7 months. However, the last time I compiled (regenerated), the Table of Contents did not display.

NOTE: The Index and Search work just fine.

In the last few weeks, my shop updated Word 2003 with the 2007 version. Has the new Word version caused the problem? How may I fix the problem?

Thank you,

Jerry

Any way to remove the use of the Webhelp Pub path feature?

$

The one RH11 pain above others that's probably been the biggest perpetual headache to deal with is the Publishing Path feature @ the end of  WebHelp SSLs. Working in a team-based environment (community access to the RH11 proj pool, Visual Studio 2013 & TFS local work space) means everyone can make steady project updates.

No matter how many hundreds of times the message is sent out NOT to publish from within RoboHelp, it of course happens daily, and I'm wondering if there's a way to disable the Publishing Path option on a single project basis. (The nice individual ulcers each occurrence gives me are starting to get old fast)

Anything at all that can be done to accomplish this, be it a way to remove the feature and / or render it unusable?

Formatting Cross Reference from Linked FrameMaker Document (RH11/FM12)

$

I am using TCS 5 (RoboHelp 11 / FrameMaker 12). FrameMaker is unstructured. I am a new RH user, still getting my feet wet.

I have RoboHelp linked to a FrameMaker book. The book contains internal cross-references (to other topics that are part of the RH project) and external cross-references (to topics in other FM books that are not part of the RH project). I mapped the FM cross-reference formats to RH styles to remove page and chapter numbers.

After I generate the help (.CHM or HTML5), the internal cross-references work and they are formatted correctly. But the external cross-references, which are broken links, exhibit these characteristics:

  • They do not appear in the mapped style; the chapter and page numbers still appear.
  • They appear as text that is formatted to resemble a hyperlink (<a><span class="FM_HypertextColor">Chapter 16, Demographic Forms</span></a>&#160;in <span class="FM_Italic">Master Forms Guide</span>.

(Note: Before I generate the help, RH recognizes the external x-refs as broken links. They do not appear under Broken Links in the RH project, but when I open a topic and press CTRL + hover the mouse pointer over them, they display the broken link finger icon).

I'm trying to figure out how to get RH to 1) format the broken links correctly (remove chapter and page #), and 2) display them as plain text instead of HypertextColor.

Suggestions or voice of experience from anyone? Thanks!

Dynamic content in tables / nested dynamic content

$

Hello RH community,

let's say I have defined four Conditional Build Tags in my RH 2015 project: A, B, C, and D. I also set up these CBTs for Dynamic Content Filtering (HTML5 output).

In my topic, I added a table with three rows and some text in each row. Then, I assigned one CBT to each row (row 1 -> A, row 2 -> B, row 3 -> C).

I also added some text outside of the table and assigned CBT "D" to it.

So what happens if I view this topic in my webbrowser (IE / Chrome / whatever) and select "D" as a content filter? The text of the three rows is hidden, but the table borders are still visible.

This is because the table is not effectively empty - it still contains paragraphs with the "rh-hide" class added to them.

Now I thought I could wrap the whole table in a <?rh-cbt_start condition="A, B, C" ?> tag. Unfortunately, this applies the A,B,C condition to all rows of the table, and the differentiation between A, B, and C does not work anymore.

I think that's because nested dynamic content conditions are not possible with RH. You can't say "apply this condition to this content, and within this content, have a different condition". Am I right? Is there any solution to this problem?

Best regards,

Lars

It is possible that my project got corrupted

Hi guys,

I already asked this question to Peter, as my login into the forum would not work, so please Peter, accept my apologies for that.

When I open a topic, the font box is toggling between TimesNewRoman and Verdana, making very difficult for me to choose the font.

Also, when I try to update a picture in a topic, the new picture does not update in the topic, though in the preview I saw the new picture.

Also, just 5 minutes ago, I tried to change something minor in the topic as the font for the entire topic changed just because I deleted one character. Therefore I think that the project is in a pretty bad shape...

I am using a shared domain where I have shared pictures and topics between 2 projects.

I think I received long time ago a quick fix about how to repair a corrupted project, however I do not know if it would apply in the present situation.

Thank you in advance

topic links switch to project path links and break

Robohelp 11

Some links that worked yesterday switched to the complete path name and are broken today because they're outside the project. For example: <a href="ma_stu_roster.htm"> became <a href="git/helpfile/projectname/ma_stu_roster.htm".

Yesterday I did a find/replace for a word, which would change text on the HTML tab. However, if this is the problem, there should be many more broken links, as the replaced word was common. I know there can be a problem editing the HTML tab directly. What's happening and how can it be done to avoid breaks?

Thank you

How is the best way to create a duplicate version of an HTML 5 Help system?

$

0

This is for a cloud-based SaaS product which doesn't have releases in the traditional software sense. An initial Help system was created. Now I have to prepare to do periodic updates. I'm thinking of duplicating the existing Help system's folders and file and renaming the existing system's top folder to "release." I would then name the duplicate's top folder "beta" and work on updates to the product in the beta version. Once the beta version is ready for release, I would copy those files over to the release folder structure and repeat the process.

Are there any gotchas when duplicating a Help system? I want to make sure the hyperlinks and graphic links are kept intact.

Any other suggestions for handling this?

Thanks.

RH 2015 > nav bar layout corrupt when opening RH11 project

Hi,

I opened my RH11 project in RH 2015, and everything looks good except for my nav bar. My icons have all moved, there is a double scroll bar and arrow buttons appear in the header. Also - did Adobe add scrollbars, because I didn't design this project with scrollbars in it. Is there a way to turn them off?

Below are my before and after nav bars. (Don't worry about topic names, titles and content - I had to remove them before I posted this.) How can I fix this? I hesitate to do anything to the template without help as I might mess up the template.

Thanks,

Pam

Context-sensitive WebHelp topic calls not working in Firefox

$

Our web portal uses map IDs to open context-sensitive help topics. After being upgraded to Firefox version 41.0.1, I noticed the help links in the web portal no longer open the appropriate help topic. Instead, the links now open the default topic.

I tested the same help links in our web portal using Google Chrome and a few different versions of Internet Explorer, and the links open the correct help topic in those browsers.

Has anyone encountered this problem with Firefox? I'm using RoboHelp 2015 and outputting to WebHelp.

Dropdown Hotspot based on another Topic

I would like to create a Dropdown Hotspot which automatically displays the contents of another HTML file.

Is this possible?

This would be similar to an Auto-Sizing pop-up except that the content of the HTML is dropped into the parent page rather than displayed in a pop-up window.

Thanks

I'm updating a help file for WebHelp. I've added some new topic links. They work fine when viewed on a PC Browser, but they don't work on the Mac. The old links work fine on both OS. I'm using RoboHelp 11. The file may have been first created with an older version.

Is RH 2015 responsive layout tool tip text editable?

In the RH 2015 responsive layouts, is it possible to change the tool tip text that appears over the TOC, Index and Filter buttons? I'm guessing this could be buried somewhere in a .js file, but not sure where.

RoboHelp 10 WebHelp search feature not working?

$

Hi all,

I am using the Adobe Technical Communication Suite 4 and cannot get RoboHelp 10 to generate a WebHelp product with search capabilities.

I have created a RoboHelp 10 WebHelp project and imported FrameMaker 11 files.

Everything seems okay, but when I search in Internet Explorer 10, nothing happens.  I can even be on the same page as a term and enter the term in the box,

but then nothing happenns. I also tried:  Opera, Firefox, Chrome and Safari browsers and still no results in the WebHelp search results.

Actually, I get one word by default and that word is:  "null".

Any idea on what is causing this?  I have a deliverable due soon, and I need to get this search capability working.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I am using the latest patch too - RoboHelp 10.0.0.287

Regards,

Jim

How do I turn off glossary and/or index button for Responsive HTML5?

$

I do not want to use a Glossary or Index, only TOC and Search for my help system. Can I turn off the glossary and index buttons with the Responsive HTML5 output?

I deselected those two items in Project Set-up - Windows - main - properties. But that seems to affect Web Help but not Responsive HTML5.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks.

Favicon not working in IE

$

When viewing my WebHelp locally, generated with RH10, my favicon displays in FireFox and Chrome, but not in IE.

I have tried:

  1. Using the default line: <link rel="shortcut icon" href="whstart.ico">
  2. Using a different name for the favicon (e.g., "favicon.ico", "myicon.ico").
  3. Using caps for "SHORT ICON".
  4. Clearing my cache and retesting.
  5. Using these alternate lines that specify type and put the image in a different folder location:
    <link rel="shortcut icon" type="image/x-icon" href="image/myicon.ico" />
    <link rel="icon" type="image/x-icon" href="image/myicon.ico" />
  6. Using the old RH script to provide the http reference to the file location:
    <script language="javascript">
    <!--
    var sIcon="myicon.ico";
    var sPath=document.location.href;
    if (sPath.indexOf("http")!= -1)
    document.write("<link REL=\"SHORTCUT ICON\" href=\""+ sIcon +"\">");
    //-->
    </script>
  7. Verifying that my .ico file is indeed an .ico file, and using alternate .ico files.

In all cases, the favicon works correctly in FireFox and Chrome, but does not work in IE.  I am using IE 11.  I tried switching the IE Document Mode to an earlier version.  No change.

Since the .png file format is supposed to work with IE, I tried using a .png file instead of an .ico file.  Still did not work in IE.

Any ideas?  Thanks!

Tim

Cannot find Microsoft Word Installed on your system - RH10 - a solution

$

I started receiving the error "Cannot find Microsoft Word Installed on your system" whenever I tried to generate printed documentation from RoboHelp 10. This occurred after I installed Open Office 3.4.1.

Clicking the "Printed Documentation" option in the SSL pod generated the error. However, right-clicking on the "Printed Documentation" option, selecting "Properties", then clicking "Save and Generate" did work. Go figure.

I am using Word 2007.

All of these suggested solutions to resolve the problem didn't work, unfortunately.

  • Uninstalling and reinstalling Open Office with the correct option selected for file associations as suggested here:

http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/printing/print_issues.htm#other_issues

  • Tried reinstalling the MPJ2DOC.DLL as suggested here:

http://helpx.adobe.com/robohelp/kb/error-cannot-find-microsoft-word.html

  • Tried all the suggestions here:

http://forums.adobe.com/message/4173839

  • Spent 2 hours with Adobe support (they were helpful but could not fix the problem) uninstalling and reinstalling RoboHelp, including reinstalling and registering the dll again.

Finally I fixed the problem by following the simple solution here. I found that the problem was that the Word file associations were corrupt and you simply need to reregister word.

http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErr...gisterWord.htm

Here's the solution in case the  link does not work:

How to re-register Word when problems crop up opening files

Article contributed by Cindy Meister Cindy's web site

If you find that Word files do not open in the desired version of Word when you double-click them in Windows Explorer, or that when opening them from the Desktop or Explorer, a series of messages appear claiming that the file cannot be opened, such as:

Cannot open C:\My
Cannot open "Documents\The
Cannot open "Test.doc"

.. you need to re-register Word.  To fix the problem:

Word 97 and above

  1. Click Start | Run (bottom- left corner of your screen).
  2. In the Open box, type:
  3. winword /r

    and press Enter. Note that there is a space before the forward slash

Word 95

  1. Locate the file winword.reg on your system
  2. Double-click it to re-register Word

Hope this helps anyone else who has struck this problem.

Cheers Mark

Issue displaying frames in Chrome

Hi all -

We are currently using RoboHelp HTML 7.0

When I publish, frames cannot be viewed when using Chrome, although they are just fine when using IE or Firefox. This is the publically shared URL for accessing this file - http://responsibility.motorola.com/web_help/index.htm

I've been told by co-workers this is not a version issue, it does not work for higher versions of RoboHelp either. Does anyone know the accuracy of this statement? As Motorola is now owned by Google, it's obviously of concern.

Note that I have installed IE extensions for Chrome, it did not make a difference

Robohelp 10 printed documentation in Windows 10

$

Yesterday my company upgraded my work computer to Windows 10. I have Robohelp 10

Today I attempted to generate printed documentation and received an error message.

After searching the forums, I saw the thread on Office 2013 and Robohelp 10, and decided to downgrade back to Word 2010. I uninstalled Office 2013 and reinstalled Office 2010. I currently only have Word 2010

Now when attempting to generate printed documentation, I receive the following error message:

Printed error.png

After clicking OK, Robohelp crashes. This occurs in multiple projects.

If I right-click on Printed Documentation and select properties:

When attempting to generate a pdf, doc, or docx, I receive the following error message:

Printed error2.PNG

Any other suggestions?

I checked the version features for Robohelp 2015 and saw that it only supports Windows 8.1 so I am pretty sure upgrading my software is no guarantee of anything.
