Expanding Text Following Snippets Containing Drop-Down Text

$

Using RoboHelp11. I did a search, here, and didn't see this covered.

I'm having an issue with expending text used for glossary terms in a document working when preceded by a snippet containing drop-down text (Situation 2).

Situation 1: If a snippet containing regular text precedes the glossary terms with expanding text, the terms expand without issue in compiled Help.

Situation 2: If a snippet containing drop-down text precedes the glossary terms with expanding text, the terms do not expand in compiled Help.

Is this a known issue? Is there a fix for this I'm missing?

Thank you.

Search Error: Failed to initialize database

I have been using RH HTML version 8.02 for several months. Recently, after compiling, the Search results do not work. The Search tab shows Error: Failed to initialize database. This occurs when I compile locally and to the server. Running MJ's Diagnostics did not fix the problem.

Thanks.

RoboHelp 10 WebHelp search feature not working?

$

Hi all,

I am using the Adobe Technical Communication Suite 4 and cannot get RoboHelp 10 to generate a WebHelp product with search capabilities.

I have created a RoboHelp 10 WebHelp project and imported FrameMaker 11 files.

Everything seems okay, but when I search in Internet Explorer 10, nothing happens.  I can even be on the same page as a term and enter the term in the box,

but then nothing happenns. I also tried:  Opera, Firefox, Chrome and Safari browsers and still no results in the WebHelp search results.

Actually, I get one word by default and that word is:  "null".

Any idea on what is causing this?  I have a deliverable due soon, and I need to get this search capability working.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I am using the latest patch too - RoboHelp 10.0.0.287

Regards,

Jim

Index to bookmark in topic

I'm using RH2015

I have a fairly long topic. About 3/4 of way down is a topic bookmark called "Sales Tax Calculation". If I click on the TOC entry in HTML 5 online help, it takes me to that location in the page.

If I create an index entry, it takes me to the start of the page and user has to scroll way down. If I select Cross reference and select the bookmark (not sure if this is the right hing to do). the index entry disappears when i regenerate

so how do I get the index to take the user to a specific location in the page/topic?

TIA

Cannot find Project Set-up Pod

I'm using RoboHelp 2015 to create Responsive HTML5 and printed documentation output. I am starting to investigate the use of context-sensitive Help. The RH documentation mentions a "Project Set-up Pod" but I see no such pod. I've had other issues with my RH2015 installation--specifically trying to generate printed documentation that resulted in several tech support calls. Perhaps this is either residue from that issue, or the pod is carefully hidden! Here's a screen capture of what's listed when I click Pods:

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Karen

Image path appearing as tooltip in the PDF documentation

Hi all,

I posted this issue a while ago, and I also offered the solution of populating the Screen tip of the image in the image's properties, however this is working for RH7, whereas for RH8 it does not matter what I enter in the Screen tip, it will still show the complete path of the image at the moment of creation of the PDF giving away some sensitive information. Not displaying the Screen tip specified in the image's properties is definitely a bug. Is there any remedy to  that. Basically I do not need any Screen tip for my pictures. Best would be to not display anything, however it seems impossible for the time being.

It does not matter if I generate the PDF directly as a layer in RH8 or I generate it from Word, the result is the same, and it is annoying.

I hope there is a remedy to that.

I use a Windows XP Pro 32 bit, and I installe all service packs from Adobe.

Thank you,

Bogdan

BSSCPopup is undefined?

Are there any known issues with image maps and Internet Explorer 11? Specifically where there are correct image maps to text pop-ups, but I get inconsistent error message stating, "BSSCPopup" is undefined." When I view the topic with image maps in Chrome, the popup is accessible, but in IE11, it is not.

ePub output - bulleted lists mangled RH9

I was pleasantly surprised when doing an investigation in to outputting to ePub format, that everything seemed to be transformed quite nicely, even my tables, which according to what I read don't get handled too well by the ePub output.

But (there's always a but!), as seems invevitable, bulleted lists don't work, with the bullet appearing in the text, as below.

epub_bullets.png

All lists in my project are affected. As this is a linked FrameMaker project which normally outputs to WebHelp, is there anything I can to to change this?

RoboHelp's air installers no longer install with AIR 4.0 update?

$

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

After updating to AIR 4.0.0.1390, our RH air help installers no longer work. This includes .air help from 2 - 3 years ago, which have installed fine all these years, all the way up to a recent .air file we created for an upcoming release. This problem occurs on both Mac and Win, with the US version of AIR and the Chinese version of AIR, and it's a critical problem for us. Now when you double-click the .air file to install the help, you get this message:

"Sorry, an error has occurred. The application could not be installed because the installer file is damaged. Try obtaining a new installer file from the application author."

Well, the application author is us. But this isn't a problem that we can fix, because it happened with the AIR 4.0 update.

Version 3.8 of AIR works fine. Version 3.9 broke our context-sensitive help on the Mac (bug 3648177, filed in Oct, not that it did us any good). Now version 4.0 has broken our air help completely. We are transitioning to HTML5 help but not quickly enough, it seems.

Can anyone confirm that the same thing happens?

Thank you,

Alexandra

Can you add a polling feature to a .CHM file?

Using FM 12 / RH 11 to generate .CHM help files.

I would like to add a polling feature to each topic in the help file (Did this topic help? Yes/No Comments:). I have explored 3rd party tools (Polldaddy, Feedbackify!, Feedbacklite) that work with web-based help, but not with .CHM help.

Is there a way to do this using RoboHelp? If you know how or have done it successfully, I would appreciate some help. Thank you.

Hi there!

I am using RoboHelp version 11 and I was wondering if I inserted a GIF with animation in a topic, would that animation appear in my project?

Any help would be great.

RoboHelp 2015 Dynamic Content Filter Problem

$

I implemented the new Dynamic Content Filter feature in a set of merged help projects. The output is Responsive HTML5.

Our scenario is when SuperUser logs into the UI and launches the help, they get all the help content, but when any other user logs in, they will see all the content except what I've tagged as SuperUser_Only.

I initially tested the output and filtering by displaying the filter icon and verified the filtering behaved how I expected. I was disappointed the "Select by default" option didn't work how I expected, but that wasn't a deal breaker.

Since we want to deploy the filter with URLs and not show users the filter option, I figured out the URLs (thank you William van Weelden) and did basic testing with those. By basic testing I mean I copy/pasted one URL in the browser and pressed ENTER, viewed the results, then copy/pasted the other URL in the browser and pressed ENTER, and viewed the results. This worked a couple of times and I deemed the feature to be working and told our development team it would work.

However, after a couple more copy/pastes the content didn't change, but if I pressed F5 to refresh, it would then display the correct content. Then sometimes I had to close the browser completely and reopen and then paste again, and it would display the correct content. But now the filtering has stopped working at all. I have complete control of the server and have not made any changes there. I've tried both Chrome and IE and cleared the browser cache and nothing makes the filtering work now.

Here are the two URLs I tested with, with Xs for the server IP address. We have context sensitive help and these are for a screen whose topic is named FOOD.htm.

http://xxx.xx.xx.xxx:8080/helpRH/help/en/mergedProjects/Planning/FOOD.htm?filter=EndUser:N OT_SuperUser_Only

http://xxx.xx.xx.xxx:8080/helpRH/help/en/mergedProjects/Planning/FOOD.htm?filter=SuperUser:SuperUser_Only

Does anyone have any ideas on how to make the dynamic content filter work consistently?

Generating WebHelp/HTML After Upgrading from RoboHelp for Word X3

$

My client is looking to change the way they generate help for an internal application. Until now, they've been using RoboHelp for Word X3.  I was able to import the existing project into RoboHelp 10 and generate "Primary Layout (WebHelp)."  I opened the generated help in IE and FireFox and found the Table of Contents, which generated well.

Most but not all of the individual help pages will not open, however. Those that will not open are in CHM format. FireFox is reporting errors like "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (rmation.chm) isn't associated with any program."  Can anyone advise me on how to proceed?

Robohelp on mobile devices that do not allow popups

Have a question for those in the Robohelp world, currently we publish our online help to a responsive layout for a cloud based application. When a user access the online file from the application, online help opens in a new popup window/internet browser. However, for some mobile devices that may not allow popups, would online help display side by side inthese situations or how would they display.

Also, we would like to embed online in the frame of the application, so online is contained within the application iteslef, not unlike modern online helps for mobile devices, if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great.

My updated help file only opens the TOC/Index/Search

I have to update an old project that uses WinHelp, so I installed RH X5 on an old XP machine. The original help file always opened in a 2-pane window with the ToC on the left and the default topic on the right. My "updated" help file only opens the ToC/Index/Search screen in a single pane. How do I get the 2-pane window to appear?

This is what I'm looking for

RH8 IE7 Blank Page

$

My company just moved to Robohelp 8 and I've run into an issue. During some testing for a new project, I created a demo webpage with links to several different context sensitive help ids. See code example below.

In Firefox, clicking each link displays the appropriate help topic in a single window. In IE7, the first link clicked opens the appropriate help topic in a new window, but clicking any subsequent links on the demo page causes IE7 to display only a blank webpage. If I close the help window and click a link in the demo page, the appropriate help topic is displayed in a new window, but, again, clicking any other link on the demo page displays a blank webpage.

I even tried upgrading an existing project from RH7 into RH8, and the webhelp exhibits the same issues that the new project does.

Can't generate webhelp using a conditional build expression

$

0

Background

  • RoboHelp HTML 7 (I know it's old)
  • Windows 7
  • Project has always had conditional text -- successfully updated/generated webhelp about 4 months ago.
  • Other projects of mine that have conditional text still work fine -- meaning I can successfully generate webhelp using a conditional build expression for all my other projects.

Problem

When I try to generate webhelp for this specific project, RoboHelp hangs during the "updating files" progress message. The only way out is to close RH entirely. I can successfully generate webhelp for this specific project if I use NO conditional build expressions.

What I've tried

  • As stated above, I can generate webhelp for this project if I don't use a conditional build expression.
  • I've tried the following in different combinations: removed all conditional text tags and conditions, deleted the .pss file, deleted the .cpd file, looked at table formatting, created new conditions with new names.  Result is always the same: RH hangs if I use a conditional build expression.

Things I've noticed

  • The root project file has many temporary Robohelp files after the generate fails. If I subsequently generate with no conditional build expressions, the temp files are gone.  This is probably normal RH behavior.
  • After I remove all conditions and conditional text references from all topics, I added a new condition.  I did NOT mark any text as conditional.  I added a conditional build expression.  Generate hangs.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

RoboHELP and windows 10

Hi Everyone,

We currently use RoboHELP 10 and wondered about the following wrt Windows 10:

  • Is RoboHELP 10 compatible with windows 10 and its associated version of Word?
  • What version of RoboHELP would we need for windows 10 compatibility?
  • Does RoboHELP 2015 comply?

Thanks.
