[RoboHelp 2015 using Responsive HTML5] Search not Working in Internet Explorer 11

$

I publish my RoboHelp 2015 project in Responsive HTML5. It has come to my attention that the search bar is not working on some computers using Internet Explorer 11. Users would search a common word and it would come up with "Searching 0%". This issue is not happening with Google Chrome at all. In some computers, the search bar is working correctly with both IE11 and Chrome.

Any ideas what could be the issue with IE11? Any tips?

RoboHelp 2015 .xpj Files Crashing RoboHelp 2017

$

Recently upgraded from RoboHelp 2015 to RoboHelp 2017. Normally, a project created in the older version updates automatically simply by opening the .xpj file in the newer version. However, RoboHelp 2017 hangs in both Windows 7 and Windows 10 when trying to open the .xpj file created in RH2015.

I've tried all the old stand-bys: rebooting the computer, giving the project hours to open in case it's trying to update, attempting to open projects with a smaller number of files, re-installing RoboHelp on the computer, and installing RoboHelp on a different computer. The end result has been the same. After about 3 seconds, the Starter screen freezes and dims slightly, and RoboHelp continues to churn until I kill it in Windows. I've noticed two messages in the status section at the bottom of the screen: either "loading xxx.xpj" or "Loading DB info."

I also tried deleting the .cpd file and opening from the .hhp file. Same outcome.

One other observation: Typically when updating a project to a new version of RoboHelp, a pop-up displays saying that the project was created in an older version and offers the option to update in the new version. No popup displays before the system hangs.

I am able to create a new project in RoboHelp 2017, so the app seems to be working as long as it's not updating older files.

Anybody else encountered this issue and come up with a work-around?

Thanks,

Steve

RoboHelp 2015 Errors Due to Windows 10 Security Updates

Hi,

Has anyone else encountered errors when generating RoboHelp 2015 WebHelp with Windows 10?  I have installed all patches/updates for RH 2015.  This occurred after installing a Windows 10 Security Update.  RoboHelp is installed on my hard drive and my files are generated there as well.  I called Adobe and they were not helpful.  We are a small company and our IT Support also is struggling to figure this out.  I had this error a week or so ago...a Windows update broke it...then the next Windows update fixed it.  But the newest Windows update installed last Friday Aug. 11, 2017 broke it again.  Un-installing the security update did not fix it.  Below is the error message from the Application Event Viewer.  Thanks, Lori

Moving Styles in the Styles & Formatting Pod

In RoboHelp HTML 8:

Is it possible to move styles between the different style types in the Styles & Formatting Pod? For example, can I move styles that I had created early in the project from the List Styles filter to the Paragraph Styles filter?

Basically, my goal is to use a single filter list when assigning styles. It would be ideal if I could create my own list of commonly used styles, which would make it unecessary to move back and forth between the various lists.

How do I resolve the "touppercase" javascript error message from the whutils.js when I click Search in a chm generated from the RH "WebHelp to CHM Converter.jsx" script?

I have successfully created and tested a skinned WebHelp output. However, when I run the chm generated from the RoboHelp script "WebHelp to CHM Converter.jsx" and click in the Search box, it immediately displays an error dialog with the description:

Unable to get property 'toUpperCase' of undefined or null reference

!The error is thrown from the whutils.js file, line 178.

I'm running RoboHelp 2017, v13.0.2.334

Your help as always is greatly appreciated.

Topic properties is accessed and error code "The Parameter is incorrect", hit OK, gets me to Properties but will not access template and style sheet (lets me access one or the other.) I think this happened when I accidently hit Generate PDF in the title bar by mistake........at least I hit that and this what I got. I need to get this error off so I can access style sheet and template at same time. I get this error on ALL topics when I try to access PROPERTIES.

Generate from Robohelp to MS WORD: Both Word doc map levels (Headings) & PDF Bookmarks are incorrect

$

Hello All,

Please review the following problem I am experiencing with my WORD output Document Map / PDF Bookmarks,

Thank you all for your time and assistance,

~PM

SOFTWARE VERSIONS:WIN 7, RoboHelp 8, WORD 2007

ISSUE: Generating TOC chapters from Robohelp 8 to MS WORD 2007, WORD document map levels (Headings) are incorrect or navigation trees are not consistent. RoboHelp 8->SSL configured and mapped, using a WORD template .dot.

SOLUTION GUIDANCE:

The PDF is generated from the word document that, in turn, is created from the RoboHelp 8 project. The PDF generation is configured to use heading styles to create bookmarks.

Note: Word styles are mapped to styles defined in the RoboHelp templates however; the resulting document/PDF will generate incorrect or inconsistent bookmarks.

PROBLEM ONSET:Unable to determine when this first occurred, looked at older generated "PDF's" hence, there were no bookmarks; probably due to not having the option in WORD converting/publishing into Adobe 'heading option' checked off.

DESCRIPTION:In the Adobe Reader, click on the View->Navigation Panel->Bookmarks (NOTE:this can also be seen in WORD 2007 'Document Map' left pane), the navigation trees are not consistent.

Expected result:The bookmark structure follows the structure of the document where the first level are chapters, second level of the navigation tree are topics, etc.

Actual result:The bookmark structure is not consistent and shows things like "Scenario 1", "Figure 1" on the same level as chapter headings.

EXAMPLE #1:

Click on the + sign next to the Introduction bookmark;

Expected result:It should show

Introduction

->Introduction

->Support and Training

Actual result:

Introduction

->Introduction

  ->Support and Training

EXAMPLE #2:

Click on the + sign next to the Preparing for Database Migration bookmark;

Expected result:It should show;

Preparing for Database Migration

->Required Steps for Certain Versions of Financials

->Any version running on SQL Server 7.0

->Version 3.x running on SQL Server 2000

->Version pre-4.3.11 running on SQL Server 2000

->Version 4.3.11 or later running on SQL Server 2000

Actual result:

Preparing for Database Migration;

->Required Steps for Certain Versions of Financials

->Any version running on SQL Server 7.0

->Version 3.x running on SQL Server 2000

->Version pre-4.3.11 running on SQL Server 2000

1. Upgrade 4.3.11 or later to 4.6 while running under SQL Server 2000.

2. Upgrade SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005/2008/2012.

->Version 4.3.11 or later running on SQL Server 2000:

Scenario 1

Scenario 2

and so forth...

EXAMPLE #3:

1) Open PDF

2) In the Adobe Reader click on the View->Navigation Panel->Bookmarks;

Expected result:The bookmark structure follows the structure of the document where the first level are chapters, second level of the navigation tree are topics, etc.

Actual result:The bookmark structure is not consistent and shows things like "FDP", "2. Click Next." on the same level as chapter headings.

EXAMPLE #4 (Visual):

Notice “Step / Action”, this text is coming from RoboHelp as ‘Normal’ Styles and is mapped to WORD as a ‘Normal’ Styles but WORD is reading it as “Outline Level” (Paragraph). See sample WORD screenshots below.

ATTEMPTS TO RECTIFY PROBLEM:

  1. This is NOT a problem if I generate a single chapter from RoboHelp TOC 'Chapter Layout'.
  2. I also tried all the chapters separately and there were no problems.
  3. When I generate all 24 chapters from my TOC 'Chapter Layout'  there are issues (e.g., single word like "Step / Action" text, nubered and bullited text become headings).

Context-sensitive (pop-up) topic handling in Firefox

$

I'm using RoboHelp 7 HTML for WebHelp development. The Help project I've built is accessible from a Web-based application, for which I have also created context-sensitive Help. The application will soon officially support Firefox v. 3.5.3, so users can use it to launch the application instead of IE, if needed. The problem is the behavior of Help display within Firefox. When launching Help from the application's toolbar menu or from anywhere in the GUI where contex-sensitive Help is accessible, there is a blank pop-up window that displays and vanishes in the lower right portion of the desktop. The Help topic is launched at the same time as this blank, secondary window, but it displays as intended.

In Firefox, pop-up blocking is disabled. I have checked the Web sites for Peter G., RoboWizard, John D., and of course, Adobe KB archives and I cannot find a clear answer to this issue. What can be done to stop the blank, secondary window from displaying when Firefox is used?

Thanks.

RoboHelp 11 / Responsive HTML: Can you remove Index and Glossary from the output layout?

$

Hi All,

We do not typically write indexes or glossaries for our product or P&P documentation, but the Responsive HTML 5 layout has icons for both in the Sidebar (Layout Customization). We would prefer to remove these, but I haven't sorted out whether it's possible. It appears it is not simple if it is possible. I tried the 1x1 invisible png, but Layout Customization forces you to use the index.png and glo.png file names. I renamed the invisible png as index.png and it left a 1x1 px white spot in the header. Meanwhile, if you mouse over where the icon was, it makes it look like there's a clickable icon there. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Matt

Creating an Index

Hi,
I am new to these forums and I could use some help getting the index wizard to work. The TOC was created manually and has remote links to .htm files. Now I would like to create an index from all of those .htm files. However when I try and run the Smart Index Wizard, I only get a message saying that "No Topics were Found". Did I miss a step? To create the index to all of the .htm files need to be located in the same folder?

Thanks,

RH8 Topics Don't Display

We recently upgraded from RH7 to RH8.  I'm running 8.0.2.208. The files generate fine, and in the output on my desktop I can see everything as I should (TOC, Index, Glossary, and all the topics and links). However, when the output is put onto the library that it's written for, when you click the Help button, you don't see the topics. You can see everything else fine (TOC, Index, etc), but the pane that holds the topics is blank. Our software developer for the libraries thinks it may be Unicode because our web server is not unicode compliant for multi-byte characters. He asked if we can disable Unicode. Could that be the problem, and if so, can it be disabled?  We used RH7 for a long time and never had this problem.

The error our Web server is giving is:

PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/embedded/library/HTTPService/htdocs.adic/RoboHelp/a_dpf.htm on line 1

The issue seems to be the first line of the new RH 8 files. They have the 3 bytes (ef bb bf) denoting a Unicode file and this xml tag.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

The OLD RH 7 files did not have this line.

Thanks for any help!!!

RH7 - Spell Checker and Smart Index Wizard looking in all folders?

Hi all,

RE: RH7 - Spell Checker and the Smart Index Wizard looking in all folders instead of just TOC topics?

While running the Spell Checker and the Smart Index Wizard I am getting the impression they are looking in *all* the folders under the Project Files folder, and not just the topics I have chosen to insert into my TOC. Is this true? If so, is it possible to set RH so that it only looks in TOC topics?

TIA

What is the best way to toggle between different languages using the same help file?

$

Hi all,

I am currently working with my software architect to find the best way to toggle between different languages in the same help site using Responsive HTML. He did some research and found this Generating help in multiple locales using Adobe RoboHelp 10 | ADOBE GLOBALIZATION BLOG

I proposed using Conditional Tags in my Help content, and filter between En, De and ES. I assigned the different languages at topic level within each book (Book 1 contains EN, Book 2 German etc) for each different languages, i.e. Book/Topic - DE, Book, Topic - En etc. And then create Conditional Tags based on the languages. I outputted this and seems OK, but the filters are kind of ugly and I just wanted to know if there is a more effective way using Responsive HTML?

Thanks and kind regards,

Context Sensitive Help Failure in RoboHelp 11

$

In my application, I am trying to form URLs to automatically pull up context sensitive help based upon Robohelp Topic Ids.  I have read about how it should work using this reference: https://www.wvanweelden.eu/articles/part/csh-start-file  but for some reason it is not working at all.  Let me describe the issue in more detail.  I have a Robohelp project wit many topic ids.  I generate webhelp for the project and publish it.  I then create a url that I want to display the web page corresponding to the Robohelp topic ID.  For example:  "http://MyWebSite/Documentation/DEVELOPMENT/WebHelp/index_csh.htm#TopicID=Batch_Folder,with navpane=true".  According to the documentation I have read, this should work but no matter what topic id I use, the Help Start page is always displayed.  I am at a loss to explain why this is failing when I appear to have followed all the proper steps to make it function properly.  Can someone in this community please help me?

var re  = new RegExp("rv:([0-9]{1,}[\.0-9]{0,})");

if (re.exec(navigator.appVersion) != null)

{

gbBsIE = true;

gbBsIE4 = true;

gbBsIE5 = true;

gbBsIE55 = true;

}

のようなIEのバージョン判定がPCによって書き出されないことが判明。

(このPGが組み込まれているWebHelpは目次を表示)

同じような現象が起こった方、対処方法があれば教えていただきたいです。

Image path appearing as tooltip in the PDF documentation

$

Hi all,

I posted this issue a while ago, and I also offered the solution of populating the Screen tip of the image in the image's properties, however this is working for RH7, whereas for RH8 it does not matter what I enter in the Screen tip, it will still show the complete path of the image at the moment of creation of the PDF giving away some sensitive information. Not displaying the Screen tip specified in the image's properties is definitely a bug. Is there any remedy to  that. Basically I do not need any Screen tip for my pictures. Best would be to not display anything, however it seems impossible for the time being.

It does not matter if I generate the PDF directly as a layer in RH8 or I generate it from Word, the result is the same, and it is annoying.

I hope there is a remedy to that.

I use a Windows XP Pro 32 bit, and I installe all service packs from Adobe.

Thank you,

Bogdan
