Remove Individual Image Resizing & Bulk Resize All Images to a Uniform Scale

$

We use RoboHelp 2015 to write and publish the content for four different user guides. There are over 1,000 images in use across the project. Each image is included as a shared resource (FrameMaker and RoboHelp share images across projects), and within the RoboHelp projects, we use RoboHelp's tools to resize each image individually, i.e. the Size button in the Image dialog box. For an upcoming release, we plan to change the size of all our images, which would cause RH to stretch or squish the images once it updates. We'd like to remove RH's individual image resizing and bulk resize all the images to a uniform scale.

Is there a way to remove RH's individual scaling across topics? Is there an Adobe (or other) plugin that can bulk resize images to a specific dimension? Thanks!

RoboHelp 2017 Update 2 search not working on IE for Indigo

We installed Update 2 for RoboHelp 2017 this week and found that searching from projects that use the Indigo HTML5 layout no longer works from Internet Explorer 11 but it continues to work in Chrome. We had no problem with IE11 prior to applying Update 2. Could this be a bug in Update 2? Is there a workaround? How can I remove Update 2?

context sensitive help, map-id, .ali file, re-map

I'm in trouble with a Microsoft HTML Help project which used to work but by someaction I did - and I don't know which it was - the MAP-Ids resp. the linkage bewteen the information in the .ali-file and the map-ids got lost.

What is the mechanism to make the map IDs known to a project? (a merged project in this case).

I have two mapfiles in my project :

all_mapids_sorted.h

BSSCDefault.h

all_mapids_sorted.h contains all map ids in the form:

#define Item 18269

(it's an ANSI encoded file containing Umlauts - I'm not sure whether I had to change this to UTF-8 but it used to work and I didn't change anything in that area).

My .ali file has the name

Merged_project.ali

and is a catenation of all .ali files in the subprojects

It contains for this Map ID:

<alias name="Item" link="Redirect.1.htm#its:SUBPROJECT.chm::/path\to\Item_explained.htm" >

When I compare the working merged CHM with the non working then I can see that all its:links are missing in the non-working.

By which mechanism do I make known the .ali and map-information to the project (merged~)?

--

Christoph

(maybe I have asked this before but forgot - IT WAS A DIFFERENT CAUSE THEN. MAP IDs don't get recognized (Umlaut problem?) )

P.S.: using HTML Help Studio I can see that the working CHM has 48KB of strings containing the content of the .ali file while the defunct CHM doen's contain this information.

How to Map a multilevel List in Word with a multilevel List in RoboHelp

$

0

1. First of all make a clean simple Word template. To do that,

  • Modify the default paragraph styles that you cannot delete them, like Headings,
  • Create new paragraph styles for each line of your multilevel list/s and name them rationally (don't make list style, just for each level of your multilevel list define an individual paragraph style),
  • Delete the extra paragraph styles you don't need them (for those you cannot delete it's better to remove from Quick Style List).

So at the end you will have something like this:

2. Now in RoboHelp:

  • Modify the default CSS sheet or create a new CSS and define all the paragraph styles you need and are NOT part of the multilevel list like Headings and Normal. You can do it by modifying those styles that already built or by creating new styles. It is better to use the same names you used in your Word template (other wise there might be problems in auto mapping later so you need to map them manually). It's not necessary to have exactly the same characteristics for styles with the same name in Word template and RoboHelp, for example the size of Heading 2 can be chosen different in RoboHelp in comparison to Word or the amount of indentations and so on, but the names of the compatible paragraph styles better to be exactly the same.
  • Then make a new multilevel list:
  • Give it a new name and define the characteristics of each level (numbering style, indentations amount, dot or parenthesis after, etc.).
  • When you finished your multilevel list, start creating new paragraph styles for each level of your multilevel list. Names these paragraph styles exactly the same name you used in Word. For bulleting and indentation, you need to match them with the levels of your multilevel list as following:

  • So now you have a multilevel list that for each level you defined a paragraph style inherited the numbering property like this:

3.  Now define Automap for paragraph styles,

then for Other Settings choose Convert Word list to Multilevel List:

4.  Now you need to define the mapping setting. Click Project Settings, choose your CSS for Style Mapping, then say Export:

You can save it with the same name (settings) as a .isf file and overwrite it on the previous setting.isf by clicking Save, Yes, OK.

TADDAHH!

It's all done. Create your Word document based on your template, import it and allow RoboHelp to map it by automapping. If the paragraph styles in your Word template are not exactly in the same name of RoboHelp paragraph styles, during the import process Edit the mapping process manually (uncheck the automap, and for each Word paragraph style that RoboHelp found in your Word document determine the compatible RoboHelp paragraph style like the following):

From what I can tell, Robohelp (in any version) does not have inbuilt code formatting.

I'll be using the Robohelp 2019 version and am looking for help on how to integrate some syntax highlighter and some code formatting. Any help?

Corrupted characters in TOC for Romanian

$

I am having issues with corrupted characters appearing in the TOC for Romanian when I create a CHM.

These corrupted characters should be displayed as ș and ț, but for now they were displayed as ? in the generated CHM file.

All of these characters are fine in hhc file. And when i use these files to created Webhelp file it also works.

These corrupted characters only appear in the TOC of chm file, the ș and ț characters can be displayed correctly in the body of the article.

What is the cause of this?

Thanks.

HTML view: Line breaks in tags inside ordered/unordered lists

$

Hi

(using RH 8.0.2 on a RoboHelp HTML project originally created in X5)

For some reason RoboHelp insists that some of the span tags in my ordered/unordered lists should have a line break after <span. I have tried editing the code both in HTML view and in the htm file itself (removing the line break and extra spaces using Notepad), but RoboHelp always reverts the edited span tag (i.e. inserts the line break again).

I'm unable to detect a pattern as to where the line breaks manifests themselves.

The code looks like this:

<ol start="4" type="1">

            <li class="p"><p>Dobbeltklikk på ønsket forekomst i oversikten <span

            style="font-weight: bold;">Forekomster</span>. Dialogboksen <span

            style="font-weight: bold;">Rediger forekomst</span> vises.</p></li>

In Word, the the span tag looks like this: <span[space][linebreak][tab][space]style="font-weight: bold;">

Can the <li class="p"><p> tags be the culprits? I tried editing these to a simple <li><p>, and for some reason this seems to remove the superfluous line break in the span tag. Although I can't see why. There are similar li/p tags where the span line break appears.

My main reason for wanting to rid the code of the line breaks in the span tags, is for localization purposes. There are a number of variations of the span tags with linebreak, line feed, spaces and tabs. When translating with Trados/TagEditor, the translation software interprets each variation of a span tag as a separate tag, resulting in as many as 4 different types of bold tags. A common phrase such as "Click OK to continue." can therefore have 4 different variations due to bold tag variations. This dramatically reduces the leverage we get from our translation memories.

Any input will be most welcome!

Best regards,

Torgeir

Output (RH2017) Doesn't display in IE11 (Chrome is OK)

Help systems behave just fine in Chrome.

In IE 11, nav pane and content pane just display spinners.

Followed the solution on this link:  https://helpx.adobe.com/robohelp/kb/robohelp-output-issues-ie-11.html

even though the replacement js files were older than the ones I have. Didn't work.

Tried replacing my custom layout with the same layout from a co-worker's system that isn't experiencing the same issues. That didn't help either.

And even weirder, one of my systems that I publish from the same project using the same layout works just fine in IE.

And ideas on something to try?  I haven't actually uninstalled / reinstalled yet. Would rather not if I don't have to.

RoboHelp 2019 and SharePoint Online Settings

$

Hi, we are in the process of upgrading from RoboHelp 2017 to RoboHelp 2019 and I am having trouble getting the SharePoint connection to work for version control. When we upgraded our current project, it removed the SharePoint settings we had set up (it would have been nice to know that those wouldn't transfer over...it makes me worry that there are other settings that didn't transfer as well). I then figured out that although we used the SharePoint Connector in the 2017 version to connect to the version of SharePoint hosted on our company website, that is no longer an option with RoboHelp 2019.

We have Sharepoint Online accounts, so it's possible to switch over to SharePoint Online, but when I add a connection profile nothing happens. I'm signed in and connected, but no folders show up in the selection window (see below) even though there are folders on the Sharepoint site:

selectionwindow.jpg

The RoboHelp instructions were so vague that they aren't any help. When I was on the phone with Adobe support, the woman I talked to said they had more detailed instructions but didn't send them over after repeated requests. The Adobe support staff I spoke to on the phone were unable to help me and didn't seem to have much experience with connecting RoboHelp to Sharepoint Online.

Are there certain settings I need to enable on the Sharepoint site in order for this to work? Does anyone have a more detailed step by step documentation of this process?

If anyone could help, I'd really appreciate it. Setting up Sharepoint version control for the 2017 version was pretty easy so I had no idea this would be such a problem.

Corrupted characters in Index and TOC for Romanian, Vietnamese etc

$

I am having issues with corrupted characters appearing in the TOC and Index for non-English languages when I create a CHM. It works fine for Chinese and Russian and other languages but not for some less common languages such as Vietnamese.

The language settings are correct, but what are the other guidelines for these languages?

All characters appear fine in RoboHelp, but not in the generated CHM.

Thanks.

TOC is missing from CHM output generated with Robohelp 2015

Hello. When I generate CHM output from RH 2015, the TOC is missing, but the Search and Glossary tabs are present. I'm not opening the file from a server, but from my desktop. I copied it from the server to my desktop and renamed it. The file was originally created in, I think, RH 9, but I've successfully generated CHM output with this file in RH 10. Any ideas? Thanks!

RoboHelp 2015 Responsive HTML5: child projects are not showing in master project output

Hello,

I have a master project and right now linking to two child projects. I published the child projects to the correct file in the master project's SSL location. When I generate the output of the master file, the TOC from the master project is fine, but no information from the child projects. I've searched the forums and other's website for answers and haven't been able to correct my problem.

Thanks,

Hi,

I am trying to save my RoboHelp project, and I get the following error message: "An error occurred while trying to read data from <C:/....fpj> (it put the location of my .fpj file). I took a look at the fpj file, but I can't tell what the problem is. Has anyone run across this before? How can I fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Links with Spaces in URL

I need to create links in my TOC to several existing PDFs that are going to be stored outside of my RoboHelp project. The problem is that these PDFs have spaces in their file names, for example: "Apples<space>Are<space>a<space>fruit.pdf"

RoboHelp 2015 doesn't like the spaces and (correctly) is converting the space to %20. The problem is that the URL to get to the PDF doesn't have the %20 - it has a space. What syntax do I have to use to make my link from the TOC open up the PDF?

TOC is incorrect in Word Generate

$

Hi,

I generate a Printed document with RoboHelp 2017, the TOC is incorrect.

I checked the option "maintain HTMLheading level"-- I guess this will get the same TOC as the html5 output, but it didn't.

The TOC is like the following:

Chapter 1

  • Topic 1
  • Topic 2
  • Topic 3

Chapter 2

  • Topic 4
  • Topic 5

But the TOC in PDF output is like this:

Chapter 1

Topic 1

Topic 2

Topic 3

Chapter 2

Topic 4

Topic 5

How to make the TOC work corretly?

Plus, in HTML5 output, I bind a topic to each Chapter title, this is, when I click the book title (chapter title), I can see the bound topic. Usually, the topic which is bound to the chapter is a summary of the chapter.

Chapter 1 (Topic1)

  • Topic 1-1
  • Topic 1-2
  • Topic 1-3

Chapter 2 (Topic 2)

  • Topic 2-1
  • Topic 2-2

In PDF output, the TOC is shown as:

Chapter 1

  • Topic 1
  • Topic 1-1
  • Topic 1-2
  • Topic 1-3

Chapter 2

  • Topic 2
  • Topic 2-1
  • Topic 2-2

If I generate the PDF output, it will like this:

Chapter 1

Topic 1

Topic 1-1

Topic 1-2

Topic 1-3

Chapter 2

Topic 2

Topic 2-1

Topic 2-2

Generally, the Chapter title and the title of the bound topic are the same. For exmaple:

Getting Started with iPhone

Getting Started with iPhone

Topic 1-1

Topic 1-2

Topic 1-3

Making Calls

Making Calls

Topic 2-1

Topic 2-2

The experted TOC in PDF output should be:

Getting Started with iPhone (This is Topic 1, not Chapter 1 title)

  • Topic 1-1
  • Topic 1-2
  • Topic 1-3

Making Calls (This is Topic 2, not Chapter 2 title)

  • Topic 2-1
  • Topic 2-2

Any suggestion?

Resolving unbroken broken links in RH 2017

$

I was working in a very long topic and suddenly saw a broken link notification. RoboHelp shows four broken links to the same popup, but of course clicking Edit does not take me to the actual link RH thinks is broken, only to the page. I had not touched that popup anywhere in the topic. I have checked every one of the named popups--and there are many--and they all display properly. I checked the links in the RH topic and in the topic preview. How can I get resolve an error that's not there?

--sigh--

Never mind. The problem was that the popup link text is shown two different ways (I did not create this topic) and I copied some links that used the second format. RH does not like to copy links, I've found. I could have easily figured this out if RoboHelp was actually helpful enough to take you directly to whatever links it thinks are broken.

RH2017 Indigo - Multiple levels of custom TOC tile icons?

$
0
0

Good morning ladies and gents, it's me again, promising another highly annoying question (sorry)...

First off, sorry for all the censoring on the images, I simply have to, I have no choice.  TO BUSINESS!

So since Willam van Weelden and PeterGrainge, among others (excuse me please if I forget someone) helped me to get custom TOC icons again in my landing page using the Indigo layout after Update 2, my documentation has really taken off.  People are impressed and everybody loves it.  It looks brilliant, and I'm really happy it turned out so well.

However, I now have a new idea, and I would like to build on this idea of mine, if you would be so kind as to give it a read.  Our product is to be sold as a suite, comprising of 3 different sections:  A design studio, a customer portal and an online marketplace/app store.  Each one of these three "sections" will end up having it's own documentation, and I would like to connect them somehow.  This is what I have in mind:

A landing page with 4 custom TOC images, looking something like this (ignore the images for now, they're just what I had lying around):

Now here is where I wonder if what I want will be possible.  When I click on any of the icons I want to open up the design studio's own custom icons, like so:

And the same for the other three icons as well.  Now I know this is probably not an existing feature for the layout, but I was wondering if the following could work:

1.  Create a separate project for each of the main screen's icons, in other words a new project for Getting Started, another for Design Studio, another for Customer Portal and the same for App Store.

2.  Set up "hyperlinks" on the main screen icons to navigate to the published HTML5 layout for each of the projects' index.html files.

Now, this is what I have an issue with - I can't seem to link the icon or book to a different HTML file.  I have also tried to set up a permanent redirect on the page to redirect to a different URL for now, but it's not working like it should (I use a JS command on page load).  I was just wondering if someone could help me to redirect to the correct file, or if someone has a better idea for me?

How to move a logo to the right side of the header and resize the image box - Customized Responsive HTML 5 Layout - RoboHelp 11

$
0
0

I created a customized HTML 5 Layout based on the Theme1_Standard layout.  Our logo is rectangular and will not fit in the default image box.  I want to move the logo to the right side of the header.  I don't see how to do this in the Layout Customization dialog.  Is there a way to do this in the html code somehow?  By the way, the logo looks great in the desktop and table Preview from the Layout Customization dialog.  It is the correct size and the header title adjusts to the right so that there's enough space for the rectangular logo. However, in the phone preview, the logo is tiny.  And when I generate the Responsive HTML5 single source layout with the new theme, the logo is tiny in the Chrome preview, even for desktop.

Thanks.
