Graphic callouts imported as separate files

$

Hi, all.

I have imported a word document into RH11 in win7 environment. In Word, the document creator used the Word graphics tools to put outlines around graphic elements of particular interest.

When I import the Word document, those outlines are imported as separate graphics files and I can't simply drag them into place. Is there a way to get RoboHelp to import the graphic in one piece?

Thanks.

Autonumber Topics in the TOC

How can I autonumber the TOC entries within a given book?

I'm new to RoboHelp, am running RoboHelp 2015.

I'm listing steps in a process.

Example:

Step 1:  Get out some bread

Step 2:  Open the peanut butter

Step 3:  Apply peanut butter to bread

I've figured out how to apply multi-level list to the headings on the topic pages. So on each topic page, I've successfully formatted autonumbered headings on the topic page.

But in the Table of Contents, I have only:

Get out some bread.

Open the peanut butter.

Apply peanut butter to bread.

How do I have the TOC entries themselves autonumbered?

Thanks much!

Cannot find Microsoft Word Installed on your system - RH10 - a solution

I started receiving the error "Cannot find Microsoft Word Installed on your system" whenever I tried to generate printed documentation from RoboHelp 10. This occurred after I installed Open Office 3.4.1.

Clicking the "Printed Documentation" option in the SSL pod generated the error. However, right-clicking on the "Printed Documentation" option, selecting "Properties", then clicking "Save and Generate" did work. Go figure.

I am using Word 2007.

All of these suggested solutions to resolve the problem didn't work, unfortunately.

  • Uninstalling and reinstalling Open Office with the correct option selected for file associations as suggested here:

http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/printing/print_issues.htm#other_issues

  • Tried reinstalling the MPJ2DOC.DLL as suggested here:

http://helpx.adobe.com/robohelp/kb/error-cannot-find-microsoft-word.html

  • Tried all the suggestions here:

http://forums.adobe.com/message/4173839

  • Spent 2 hours with Adobe support (they were helpful but could not fix the problem) uninstalling and reinstalling RoboHelp, including reinstalling and registering the dll again.

Finally I fixed the problem by following the simple solution here. I found that the problem was that the Word file associations were corrupt and you simply need to reregister word.

Here's the solution in case the  link does not work:

How to re-register Word when problems crop up opening files

Article contributed by Cindy Meister Cindy's web site

If you find that Word files do not open in the desired version of Word when you double-click them in Windows Explorer, or that when opening them from the Desktop or Explorer, a series of messages appear claiming that the file cannot be opened, such as:

Cannot open C:\My
Cannot open "Documents\The
Cannot open "Test.doc"

.. you need to re-register Word.  To fix the problem:

Word 97 and above

  1. Click Start | Run (bottom- left corner of your screen).
  2. In the Open box, type:
  3. winword /r

and press Enter. Note that there is a space before the forward slash

Word 95

  1. Locate the file winword.reg on your system
  2. Double-click it to re-register Word

Hope this helps anyone else who has struck this problem.

Cheers Mark

Office 2013 Support on Robohelp 10

Hi All ,

I have been using robohelp for a little while now great product....

We have recentley upgraded to Office 2013 and it seems that Robohelp 10 does not support output to Word when Office 2013 is used - ( Printed Document output  works "Most" of the time on Office 2010)

Other than rolling back to 2010 (my current solution )  has anyone else come across a way of making Robohelp 10 work with Word 2013 -

If Adobe are looking at this - are there any plans to release updates that will ensure compatiblity ?

Many Thanks

Internet Exploer 11 suddenly isn't showing my Table of Contents or Index for RoboHelp 10 output

I generated a WebHelp project with Adobe RoboHelp 10 last November. I had no problems with the TOC or index. Whenever I try to view output today, IE won't show the left pane with the list of topics in the Table of Contents. It also doesn't show index tags. I have no problem viewing this same output in Mozilla Firefox. I just set Firefox to be my default browser b/c it is so frustrating that I can't immediately view changes to my help project. Has anyone else experienced issues with IE 11? I even cleared cookies and the cache, and I still can't see my TOC and index. This never happened before.

Fix for WebHelp output issues with IE 11 breaks Search function

$

I use RoboHelp HTML 9 and have been having issues with generated WebHelp in IE 11. The TOC was totally blank and the Search tab looked fine but did not function. Everything worked fine in Firefox. After much experimenting and online research in these forums and elsewhere, I have been able to get the TOC to display properly in IE 11 (and Firefox) but the fix has caused the Search tab to stop functioning as per this other forum post RH9 Webhelp Search function is not working properly.

I need to have BOTH TOC and Search displayed and functioning properly but in order to get the TOC displayed properly I had to change the Preferred Format setting to "Pure HTML" and, according to the post mentioned above, that is what messes up the Search function. Is there a solution that will allow both TOC and Search to function properly?

Here is a summary of the steps I have taken to get to this point:

  • Tested WebHelp output from two different projects of my own as well as the Salesbuilder starter project - all would display/function properly in Firefox but not in IE 11 (blank TOC and non-functioning Search).
  • Found a "patch" for RH10 for the exact problem I was having with RH9 but was not able to find a version for RH9. Since the patch included 2 files (whutils.js and whver.js) only, I backed up these files in the RoboHTML\WebHelp5Ext\template_stock directory and replaced them with the new ones.
  • Regenerated one of my RoboHelp projects - still didn't work in IE 11 and now didn't work in Firefox either!
  • Tried turning on Mark of the Web but this did not help and would not allow opening PDF's which is necessary to one of the projects so I turned it off again.
  • Changed Preferred Format setting to "Pure HTML" instead of "DHTML" and the TOC displayed and functioned properly in IE 11 and Firefox! Hurray!!
  • Celebrated for 10 seconds until I clicked on Search tab and saw the input box filled with letters of the alphabet with other random letters, words, numbers below. It looks almost like an index but neither of my projects uses an index and I have not generated one in either project.
  • Found the post mentioned above which states that the solution is to change the Preferred Format setting back to DHTML but when I do that I am back to blank TOC and proper-looking but non-functioning Search!!!
  • I have now removed the Search tab from the output of one of the projects since it is not really necessary but I need to find a fix for this for my other project.

Both of my projects are run locally - one is release documentation that is distributed on a CD and the other is CSH which is loaded on the local server with the software for which it was created.

Note to Administrators: Sorry, but I originally posted this as a reply to a previous post - Contents, Index, & Search do not display in generated help... - so perhaps it should be removed from that thread to avoid confusion.

Importing Word 2013 files into existing projects in RH10

I've been searching all over help forums trying to figure out how to use Office 2013 with RH10 and the closest I've gotten is the following discussion about generating Help Documentation : http://forums.adobe.com/message/5043919#5043919

However, generating documentation isn't my main concern at the moment.  I'm trying to import Word Documents into my project but everytime I attempt to do this I get an error that states: "The Import Word Document Wizard cannot locate a supported version of Microsoft Word. Please install Microsoft Word 2000 or newer."  I can avoid this by converting to PDF documents, but that's not my ideal solution at this time.

My office uses 2013, so I would prefer not to downgrade to 2010.  Is there any way to avoid downgrading or would it be best to stick with using PDFs instead?

Conversion from Fm to Rh10 with references to a PDF with page number

I have a FM document with images that are references to a PDF with page number. After I do the conversion, using just the default settings/mappings, I get a Rh document with the first image being duplicated across the entire document where the other images should have been.

What do I need to do to get the correct images converted?

RoboHelp HTML5 output not working on current iPhones, iPads, Macs

I recently noticed that my HTML5 output wasn't working on iPhone, iPad, and macOS Safari.

First I thought something was wrong with my own scripts, but after some digging, I found that it's a bug in the native RH JS files.

That means that none of your HTML5 RoboHelp projects will work properly on current iPhones, iPads, and Macs (= devices running iOS 10 or macOS Sierra).

This is a major bug that should be addressed as soon as possible. The bug has already been filed by Alexandra Duffy one month ago, but it is still "Unverified": Bug#4192629 - Safari 10 update has caused HTML5 Help from RH to stop working.

Luckily enough, Edward Doris has already posted a bugfix in the above bug report. It seems to solve the problem on all devices. However, implementing the bugfix requires advanced JS knowledge.

Please provide an official bugfix as soon as possible.

Heading 1 level missing from TOC?

$

I have this little RH 7 sample project.

When converting to PDF using 'Printed Documentation Wizard', the primary Heading 1 level is NOT included in the MS Word/PDF 'Table of Contents'.
I'm not using any MS Word templates, just the project's CSS styles.
Arcrobat PDFMaker settings in MS Word are set to default and include Heading 1-9.

I've searched and searched but I don't know how to include this Heading 1 level in the TOC.

When checking the MS Word 2003 document through Insert>> Reference >> Index and Tables, the Heading 1 level is missing from the tab 'Table of Contents'.
When adding the Heading 1 level there through 'Options' button, the TOC updates correctly, but I don't know how to include this Heading 1 level through RH.

Sample projecthere

A note on the sample project:
You'll see that every topic title associated with TOC book is excluded from PDF through conditional build tags.
This was done so prevent titles from being printed twice in PDF.

For example, in the TOC there's an item titled 'Balance sheet', the associated topic Balance_sheet.htm has exactly the same title 'Balance sheet'.
To prevent this title from being printed twice in PDF, the topic title was excluded through conditional build tag.

Any help would be appreciated.

Best regards,
Herman

Merge TOC

Using RH 8.0.2.208.

My parent TOC looks like this:

A

xxx

B

C

D

My child TOC looks like this:

A

yyy

C

zzz

I expect the result to look like this:

A

xxx

yyy

B

C

zzz

D

But instead, I get this:

A

yyy

C

zzz

A

xxx

B

C

D

Is there a way to actually merge them?  It seems like they're just appended.  I'm looking for a solution that does not involve post-production work.  We update Help too often to make manual changes every time we build.

Thanks!

Using Robohelp with Clearcase

Hi,
I am a techical writer working in India. I need a solution to use Robohelp effectively and efficiently with Clearcase.

We are using Robohelp X7 for authoring the docs and using clearcase as the repository...However, the manner in which we are using now is very unfriendly (hijacking the files from clearcase and then checking-in through the clearcase explorer)...Why can't we just use clearcase the way developers do using Eclipse or other IDEs.

Robohelp even provides controls to use the source control options. But for some very strange reason they do not work with Robohelp (they work with VSS).

If you know of a plugin or some utility that can enable this , kindly share it...

Thanks,
Braulio

Problems mapping list styles when publishing to word

$

RH8 HTML

I'm publishing some work to word docs and I'm getting some problems every which way I try to get around it.

First, I published based on the CSS, this didnt work so well. My custom bullet images weren't displayed, numbered lists that come after a snippet were out of alignment.

So instead I'm trying to map the styles using my .dot word template. but this isnt working properly either.

I 'import' it into RH to be used when publishing, but when it comes to selecting the styles used in RH and mapping them to the styles in the template I can't. The list of styles I have to choose from is quite small, from what I understand it will automatically map the headings, and other styles that are common. So I only have a bodytext style, caption, reference, and hyperlink styles, plus several other random RH styles that appear in my styles list that I cant remove - drop-down hotspot, expanding text blah blah (I'd love to delete these or get them out of the list but I cant do that either)

But I cant map the list and number styles I have, this is a problem, because when the list styles I have publish, the custom bullets that I have set are not being displayed, the text and indents are ok, but no custom images. also there is an issue with the number lists coming after a snippet and the indents being completely wrong.

Any help appreciated.

Topics not Viewed

Hello,

I'm looking for a way to see which topics are not being viewed in my Help site. I'm using RH 2015 with responsive HTML5 SSL and hosting on RoboServer 9.

The RoboServer reports provides a view count for topics that have been viewed in a given time frame, but I would like to see what topics were not accessed in that same time frame.

I was hoping there was an easy way to export the topic list inside RoboHelp - where it lets you filter by TOC, TOC Name, Status etc.  This way I could blend the topic list with view count data from the Frequently Viewed Topic report (provided in RoboServer admin console). However, I have not figured out how to pull a list of all topics - in particular all topics used in a specific TOC.

Does anybody have an ideas of how to accomplish this?

Thank you!

Chris

RoboHelp 8 HTML - Toolbar Button: Email with Link to Topic

$

Realized this would be better on this forum than the WebHelp forum:

Within a skin, I'd like to create a custom email button on my toolbar that would allow a user to email a direct link to a specific file in my RoboHelp project (a Share this Topic feature).

I thought it might be something like this:

window.location=('mailto:ENTERNAME@DOMAIN.COM?Subject=Useful Step-by-Step&body=This Step-by-Step may be helpful for you: ' + window.location)

but that just calls the toolbar, not the topic; the focus isn't on the correct window.

I have the following code that I could imbed on each topic page, but for consistency, I'd like to have this functionality on the toolbar instead. Has anyone done this or come across this before?

<p><script type="text/javascript">

var mailSubject = 'Useful Information';

var mailBody = 'This page might help: ' + location.href;

var mailDisplay = 'Click here for a demo.';

document.write(

'<a href="mailto:yourname@yourSite.com'

+ '?subject=' + escape(mailSubject)

+ '&body=' + escape(mailBody)

+ '">' + mailDisplay + '</a>'

);</script></p>

RoboHelp 9 gives an out of memory error and crashes when I try to import or link a Frame 10 file or

I have Tech Suite 3. If I start a new RoboHelp project and try to import or link Frame files, RoboHelp tries for a while, then I get an Out of Memory error and the program crashes.

I opened one of the sample projects and was able to link to one of my frame files without any problem, so it seems to be an issue with creating something new.

Any suggestions?

Expanding and modifying past help system

I need to take a help system that was compiled in 2004 and modify and add to it. Would it be best to import the project and create a new one, or to open the old one as an existing project and add to it? I have been trying to make it work by opening the old one and adding to it, but when I go to compile, many of the links from the TOC are broken and I can't figure out how to fix them. On the other hand, if I import the files into a new project, I lose the existing TOC and all of the images. I'm trying to avoid having to start over. I was working with Robohelp 6, but just got the upgrade to 7 today. This did not seem to make any difference to these issues. Any help would be most appreciated!

Glossary dup/Automatically merge all projects

Hello,

I'm very GREEN to RoboHelp and RoboEngine, so I would apprecaite any advice or assistance you can give me! I have several projects that I want displayed in one large Help System. Problem is, my glossary is the same for ALL my projects. If I select "Automatically merge all projects" in RoboEngine and within RoboHelp Pro I'm importing the glossary (.glo) file and running the wizard to produce the glossary, when I open my website, the Glossary terms show up for as many projects that I have merged together. How can I have 1 glossary for all my projects? Hope I have explained this clearly. Thanks in advance for your help!

Search tab finds no topics

I compiled a CHM file using RoboHelp HTML 11. When I double-click the compiled CHM file, the Search tab works just fine. But when I view the Help in the application that uses the CHM file, the Search tab does not work. When a search term is typed in the Search tab, the "No topics found" message displays.
