How do you apply a new skin

$

I’m having trouble changing the skin applied to my WebHelp project in RoboHelp 2015. I have a project with a corporate skin applied. Now I need to use an entirely different skin (not a modified version of my existing skin). How do I apply the new skin to my project? I have the new skin in the Skin Gallery and I can select it from the Output Settings. When I generate the help I get the old look and feel. My current skin is NOT in the gallery and I cannot select it in the Output Settings but it is always applied to the project. So how do I change the skin used?

This cannot be that hard to do. The help says that after the skin is in the gallery I can select it and use it for the output. Not that I can tell.

UPDATED: RoboHelp7 > RoboHelp Server7 Publishing Error

I am getting a very strange intermittent error after creating a layout and publishing direct from RoboHelp to the RoboHelp Server:

Publishing has been cancelled.
Connection Failed. Please check the connection and post again.
Native Error:Cannot accept uploading file. Further processing has stopped.

Anybody seen this before? Again, this worked fine only 1/2 the time. Restarting services makes no difference. Then magically one day it will work and nobody has changed anything in our produciton environrment. Weird.

HHC3004: Warning: with invalid HTML tags and then CHM file will not open

I am using RH HTML in version RH11.

I am getting the following, multiple warning messages when compiling the CHM file and the file will not open.

HHC3004: Warning:

TopicName.htm :

The HTML tag "?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?" is not a valid HTML tag (it does not begin with an alphanumeric character).

Here are the strange things...

I am generating using 3 conditional build tags.  It is successful using any of the tags individually, or any 2 of the tags.  Just not all three.

     Capture2.jpg

I am able to generate with 3 build tags, the first 2 of the 3 above and one other one.

Each time I generate using the same settings (the 3 tags), the warning is applied to different topics.  Some topics that had the warning before, don't in the next iteration.

The CHM generates, but the file is double the size of the successful attempts.  64MB vs 32MB.

     Capture1.jpg

Other info:

Working and generating on a single machine.

This worked fine 6/24/2016 with all the exact same settings, the last time I did a build of my CHM.

Webhelp external link failing

Using Robohelp 11 webhelp with an external link, clicking on the link directly is causing a pure white page to be displayed, even though the link is confirmed to be valid.  If I right-click on the link to display it that way, it displays with no issue, but just clicking on the link without right-clicking causes nothing to be displayed.  This is using Chrome.  Any ideas why this would be failing?

RH9 Server reporting and searching dilema

$

We had RH9 and server went live recently. But unfortunately stuck in this dilemma:

In order to get better searching function, we have to use one pane instead of two panes;

With one pane, RH9 server stops generating statistical reports  (we have window 2008 R2 as the application server)

Adobe told me this is a bug.

I am quite surprised:  with this bug, how could RH9 server gets its marketing? Do you have any idea about this issue? I searched the user forum and get nothing.

I am wondering any possible that we are the only customer using RH server 9 for its reporting? Or this bug only triggered on certain configuration conditions?

Appreciate your any comments.

Robohelp - TFS Mapping issue for different versions

$

Hi,

I'm using Adobe Robohelp 9 with Team Foundation Server 2012 on Windows 7 -  64 bit. I've also installed Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2012 MSSCCI Provider. I've mapped all the project folders on my machine. We create HTML help (.chm) for our application.

I have different versions for each module of our entire product on Team Foundation Server 2012 (As we have multiple modules in our product), for example x+1, x+2, x+3 and so on.

Each module has different Robohelp projects for every version/branch. This means, if the Online help for any module from any version is changed, we update it in the respective version of the Online help project.

When we move on to the next version, due to binary files, the next version contains the same path and properties of previous version. We need to have different project for single module for the next version. For this, I have changed the TFS project path of every .xpj project for every version. For example, if I'm working on version x+2, then I've changed the TFS project path from x+1 to x+2 manually on x+2 version/branch and then started working on it.

As these Robohelp projects (for each module) are mapped to my local folder on C drive, it shows a single workspace mapped with same path on my machine. This should be the ideal condition for my all projects as follows:

Robohelp_TFS issue1.jpg

But sometimes when I try to update any file from version x+2 and then check-in my changes, the changes are getting checked-in to the previous version, i.e. x+1. And if I see the workspace of the x+1 version, it shows one more wrong workspace added below the correct one. This new workspace contains the Source control folder path of x+1 version and the Local folder path of x+2 version. That means, my robohelp project folder of x+2 version from my local drive is getting mapped to TFS folder of version x+1. That is why all the changes done in Robohelp project files from x+2 version are going in to x+1 version.

The strange here is when I try to check-in my changes in x+2, it shows the correct path of x+2 version. But they all go to x+1 version, which should not happen.

If anyone can help me in this problem, it would be a great help!

Thanks in advance and waiting for solution,

Dipali

Using a WebHelp Skin for a Multiscreen Desktop Profile

$

I've upgraded from RH8 to RH10 to enable multiscreen HTML5 layouts. In RH8, my primary layout was WebHelp and I used a custom skin. I would like to use that skin as the desktop profile in the multi-screen layout so that desktop users experience the same layout as they did when I published to WebHelp. Is this possible? If so, how do I set it up?

Bullets/styles in Robohelp 8

$

We just upgraded to Robohelp 8. We use a style sheet that we created. Some of the styles have bullets or numbering a,b,c, and so on. Now that we are on Robohelp 8, it is replacing these bullets and letters with regular numbers. So a topic that previously was 1,2,3,a,b,c,4 is now 1,2,3,4,5,6,4

We found that we can go into every topic that is numbered with these bullets or letters and select the option Bullet Positioned within Paragraph in Bullets and Numbering. This fixes the problem but we'll have to go thru every single topic we have to find them. We have over 14,000 topics in one of our help files so this is not an option.

There's more....when looking at the topic in Design mode, the bullets appear as we styled them. You can only find these problems in the view mode where you've click on the eyeglasses to view or the build output.

Can someone help me here? I'm ready to go back to Robohelp 6. This sucks.

RoboHelp 6 Print Docs

I was really looking forward to using RH6 to produce printed documentation because I attended an Adobe seminar where the presenter mentioned that there were lots of improvements. Well, I am very disappointed. I have yet to create a print doc in RH 6 without first going through quite a number of 'Code execution has been interrupted' message boxes. With RHX5, there were quite a few formatting issues, which I hoped would be corrected, but I never got error messages like this.

I don't know what the problem is, but I would sure appreciate some guidance.

Thanks,
Mary

How Do I Turn Off Search on Glossary Definitions

$

RH11 WebHelp. Novice/Intermediate Search Experience. Large Merged Project. I do not want the user search to pick up terms in a glossary definition. Seems to give certain pages too many hits and elevates topics in the Search Results that should not be elevated. Confuses my users and I do not see how to turn it off anywhere.

XML Output

Could you explain in simple words what is XML output used for? We don't use it now, but we have to decide whether we need it or not.

Will it ever be possible to put snippets within snippets?

$

I write a lot of service procedures.  Our field people like the procedures to flow top to bottom only without hyperlinks all over the book to remind how to perform various procedures.

Using snippets inside DHTML dropdown boxes, I can provide information to our field techs who need detailed steps and others can just perform the step without having to read a bunch of details they already know.  Some snippet steps use information that is repeated all over the book so I would like to put a snipped within a snippet for the novice field guys who really need to know every last screw to turn step by step.

RH9 will not allow putting a snippet inside a snipped.  Further, if you have too many levels of DHTML dropdown boxes within other dropdown boxes, it gets confused.  Once RH9 let me put a snippet inside a snippet and it worked for 5 minutes and then crashed our project.  It took hours to undo that one but we finally got version control to go back in time and then we were ok.

My question, is there any plan to allow snippets within snippets or can that feature be added to the request bin?  Also, is it possible for the RH people to test multiple levels of DHTML drop boxes with DHTML drop boxes?  ... say 3 or 4 deep?

Having procedures that flow from top to bottom only is becoming more and more important, especially when using tablet devices.  Scrolling around and hyperlinking is a hassle and easy for our techs to get lost.  The dropdown boxes are working beautifully but we are just having a lot of trouble stacking them several deep in some more complex procedures.

Thanks,

Attempting to print PDFs fail with an compilation error. Plz assist....

Hi. I'm tire kicking RH11 / FM 12 with the trial copy.

On 3 or 4 separate documents, I can successfully print to .docx format, but I can't print to PDFs. When I try, the program quits with message just below. I've also attached the compbilation log, which ends with "Internal error encountered,  Failed to generate Printed Documentation. "

I can print the resulting .docx doc to PDF from Word. But that's an extra step I'd rather not have to take.

Any tips on what might be causing this PDF crash would be appreciated. I see that other's have had similar problems in the past, but its not clear if their was conclusion on their issues.

Thanks in advance.

Kurt

Cannot insert Captivate project

Recently purchased RoboHelp6 for WORD and Captivate2. Running on Windows XP (sp2).
I installed RoboHelp6 first and then Captivate2.

I am creating a new RoboHelp6 project for "WinHelp 2000". I have all extensions selected.

I created a simple Application Demo in Captivate2 and Published to SWF. It creates 4 files: (examp.htm, examp.swf, examp_skin.swf, standard.js)

I have read all the RoboHelp Help topics on including Captivate into my Help project.

The problems:
1) In the RoboHelp Explorer, the "File > New > Adobe Captivate Demo" is disabled. How do I get it enabled?
2) When, in WORD, I attempt to "Insert > Adobe Captivate Demo", I get the dialog box and select either of the two SWF files created by the Captivate > Publish function and click on OK. (I leave the "Topic to display if HTML support is not installed" blank). I get the error: "The demo file, c:\...\examp.swf, was not created using Adobe Captivate."

What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
Jeff

Files are moving into deprecated folder without being sent there. They are moving there automatically. Can someone help me understand how this is happening and how to stop it? The error message says broken links, and my topics are marked with a Red-X.

Webhelp output outdated

Hello,

I have RoboHelp 10 and  I'm running Windows 7. I have administrator priveleges on my machine. We use IE 9. I am publishing webhelp directly to our webserver (i have write access to our output folder on the webserver). We have a merged project environment. Once we re-view the site after i have made a change to the content, we are not seeing the change unless we reset IE's settings to factory default settings. I understand this more and likely is not a RoboHelp issue but any information regarding this fix would be much appreciated. I also want to mention some of the child projects have the thumbs.db file auto created in them; not sure it matters but want to mention. I read that the web server may be caching the content which means refreshing and hard-refreshing IE will not help show the updated, published content but i find it weird that if I reset IE's settings to factory, then everything displays as it should. I also publish the exact same content to my local machine and I am able to see the changes immediately.

I even added this to the Index.htm file (start page) on the parent to try to force IE to open the correct content:

<meta http-equiv="cache-control" content="no-cache">

<meta http-equiv="pragma" content="no-cache">

<meta http-equiv="expires" content="0">

This did not help...

If you open the index.htm file directly from the web server location it is correct, but if you open the http address it is not.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated J

Memory Leak?

Robo is not able to display a topic with 12 embedded screen shots in WYSIWYG. Cleaned off machine, then re-imaged as base machine with no doodads. Still crashes, and apparently it is hanging resources somewhere. At times it can show a portion of the file.

Upgraded to X5.2, applied template patches. Ideas?
